CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTirMIAMI HELD TUES-
DAY EVENING, DECEMBER 179 A.D. 1946 AT
T P CITY HALL AT 8:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Barrow with Mayor Vander-
boegh, Atty. Ward and Councilmen Gladden, Shafer, Maples, Brown-
and Barrow responding to roll call.
Minutes of the special meeting of December ,10 were approved as read.
Vim. Wehle again appeared before the Council with reference to his
application for a permit to operate a theater under canvasp az out-
lined at the previous meeting. Atty. Ward raised the question of
fire and sanitary problems presented by such a set -up and pointed
out that anything but a temporary permit would be in violation of
the City's ordinancesq and furthermore, questioned whether the word
"temporary" could be applied to a project extending over the pro
posed period of time it to 18 weeks). It was generally conceded
that a "two- weeks' basis was about the longest that could be gotten
by with on a temporary 'basis ' and it was agreed to look into the
possibility of working` the problem out for next year.
At this point Pres. Barrow was excused and Vice -Pies. Brown took over.
In connection with the complaint on zoning violation filed last week
by Alvy McDonald against the L & L Buildersl Winston Larkins appeared
before the Council to state that they were doing very little work at
their home but were hauling their machinery and equipment around with
them to their job's, and that as soon as they can find a piece of'bus-
iness property suitable to their needs they °will -move their material
and equipment there.
Reports of standing committees were as follows;
Finance: O.K.
Sanitation: Absent
Fire: Chairman Maples reported that the recently acquired OCD
trailer had been painted red to conform to general practice for
such equipment.
Police:' O.K.
Streets & Parks: Absent.;
Buildings: applications for building permits were submitted, as
follows:
1. Jesse Hughes residence, FHA approved.
2. R. B. Gray, Jr. residence$ FHA approved.
3. Raymond Hoodmakerl addition for car port, not exceeding $400.00.
4 Henry Hopkins, addition not exceeding $400.00.
5e Vincent Lombardi, alterations not to exceed $400.00.
6 Fred Selch, addition not to exceed $400.009
On the Hoodmaker application a change from 2 x 4 to 2 x 6 for rafters
was requested, and more detailed drawing and specifications on the
5elch alplication to meet with the building inspector's approval
required.
Councilman'Maplesq seconded by Councilman Shaferg moved that the
applications be approved as presented, the alterations as
stated. Motion carried.
In accordance with the provisions of Ordinance #65, the registration
list was checked and all names of registrants who had moved away
or died were ordered stricken by motion of Councilman Maples
seconded by Councilman Shafer;, and carried.,
Councilman Maples raised the question of getting someone to run
the new Huber Maintainer and a tentative program for needed street
work, together with means of speeding up the work of unloading the
trash truck, were discussed and early action promised.
Councilman Gladdens seconded by Councilman Maplesx moved that the
City 'it issue a Christmas check for $10.00 to each of the City employeeal
as in past years. Motion carried by pollq as follows:
Gladden yes Shafer yes Maples yes Brown yes
It was suggested that a special meeting be called about December 30
to authorize payment of the December bills.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned in
regular order at approximately 11:10 P.M.
