CITY COUNCIL, OF SOUTH MIAMI HOLD TMM—
DAY 3VANING JUNE A5, A.D. 1946 AT TTY
CITY HALL AT 8 P Id.
The meeting was called to order by Press Barrow with Mayor Vanderbpegh, '
Atty. 41ard and Councilmen Gladden, Saposq Brown and Barrow responding
to roll call.
Minutes of the regular meeting of June 4 and of the special meeting
of June 11 were respectively read and approved as read.
R. M. Bagley appeared before the Council with reference to the condi-
tion of the honor Roll in front of the Community Building, stating
that he would like to suggest that it be taken down altogether that .`
left in its present shape, and also offering his services to 'erect
something suitable for that purpose. Following a discussions Council-
man Gladden, seconded by Councilman Browng moved that Mr. Bagley act
as supervisor to work this project out, the City to cooperate with
material and funds.; Motion carried.
An offer from Helen Pennock of $500.00 per acre for the City's 20
acres in Section 26 was turned down and the Clerk instructed to re-
turn her papers and check, advising her that at such time as the City
is ready to dispose of that property bids would have to be asked for.
Two proposed plats for subdividing a 10- and a 5 -acre tract, respect -
ively, in 36 - 54 - 40, owned by Dan Bufano, were submitted for con -
sideration and inasmuch as they conformer) to the general plan of
normal development of that area, it was agreed that final drafts on
that basis would be accepted and approved when presented. '

Sanitation: Absent.
Fire; Absent,
Police. Chairman Brown reported that the police car had literally'blottin
up and a new motor had to be installed. 'lie also reported that Chief
McKimyeY is going on his vacation on June 20 and that Officer Tanner
will return at that time. Councilman Proving seconded by Councilman
Gladden moved that 'J. U. Tanner be returned to active duty on June 20
and returned to the payroll as of that date at his former pay of .
$180.00 per month. Motion carried by poll, as,- follows:

Streets & Parks: absent. With the continued absence of C. j. rope
from this country, it was decided that his place on the 'ouncil be filled
and Irayor Vanderboegh was delegated to see wh`ther 8,dgar Shafer vibuld

'Councilman Broting seconded by Councilman Oapos, moved that the City
buy stars for the cars of city o�'ficialt, said stars to be the prop-

The Council's attention was also called to the fact that R..E. Chivers,
who is a. member of the '`Advisory Zoning Board, had. ' moved out of to vn,,
and asked that his post be filled by someone else.
The i f the G fen Hoofing Company to repair the City Hall roof at
the base f re siren (evidently storm damaged) for $24.00 was
approved.
As the City's claim for damages to the sunset & Iiighway traffic light;
put out of commission on'iipril 23 by a, tree truck of the 17. T. Price
Co.,� was
not being settled in a satisfactory manners Councilman Brown
seconded
by Councilman Sapos, moved that it be referred to the City
Attorney for handling, and instructed the Clerk to write him a let-
ter stating the facts and authorizing him to institute suit 'against
the d. T. Price Co. if the matter is not settled within 10 days
from date, sending a carbon copy to the Price Co. blotion carried.
Atty. ;Vardq uz connection with the water situation, stated that at
the present time the whole issue of sewers, extension of water mains
and flushing sewers is under consideration in Miam � with its bond
issue now in the Supreme Court for approvals and that a joust survey `
is to be made to determine the condition of the various municipals -,`
ties around it. In addition, it is impossible at this time to get
any estimates on materials for coin ections to houses. Zurthermore,
it would be advisable to be sure that the Consumers' Water Company "
is assured of a continued water supply from the Miami ; 'later Co.,, and

also check whether Coral Gables would put its 5055 surtax on the
water going thru its mains. Atty. 'lard pointed out that it would be wise '
to move carefully.
The possibility of getting natural gas in this area was also discussed,
with the suggestion that in that. event, the water and gas lines could
be put down at the same time.
