Fred Acker asked whether the Council would permit 'him to close the
dead -end street between the canal and the north "line of Block 7 of
CALMRIDG11,41 LAWS, which he is acquiring and would replat as one
tract, also stating if he acquired the blocks to the south, whether
they would I:ermi`t him to close the - intervening dead -end streets and
make an acreage tract out of the entire piece. The Council expressed
itself as agreeable to such an amended plat.:
Iltr -. Keating of the Consumers dater Company was introduced and dis-
cussed at length with the Council the possibility 'of supplying South
Miami with a water distribution system. He stated that his company
now has a 6 in. main to Red and Sunset:, which wculd be :a natural'
.
b point of entry for water supply into South Miami. The present dif-
ficulty in obtaining material would probably hold up normal progress
► of installations but it was his belief that they could probably get
started in about 3 months. There would be a $10.00 tap fee per each
installation, and on hydrants, the City would install them and pay
_ the water coml. any ,2 .50 per month per hydrant, with the privilege
of using, them 'not only far fire but for flushing streets etc.
Atty. :'hard suggested that a committee be appointed, including the
A
City Attorney, to go further into the matter, analyzing the ordinances
{.
and _franchise facts, stating that the price of installation to the
individual would be the main problem.
i
Vice -Pres. Brown appointed Atty. `1ard9 Mayor Vanderboegh and Councilmen
"
Maples and Gladden as a committee to study the matter.
Atty. =lard reported that the Bill of Complaint to clear the title to
the 20 acres owned by the City on Ludlum Road, in Section 26 - 54 -- 40'
.j
is to be filed in a few days.

In addition thereto. , we would like to go on record as
protesting the issuance` of a permit for the watermelon open -air shack
on the Main thoroughfare, practically in the heart of the business
district. Even tho it is a temporary proposition, it definitely
leaves a bad 'impression =for that period and is not in keeping with
the type of development and construction the City is trying to
encourage, in that area.
