The meeting was called to order by Pres. Barrow, with )!Mayor Vanderboegh,
Atty. ;'lard and Councilmen Gladden, Sapos, Faust and Barrow responding,
to roll call.
Minutes 'of the regular meeting of .April 16 and of the ;special meeting
of April 23 were respectively approved as read.
Mr. H. H. Eylesq Attorney for the South Miami Coach Line, appeared be—
fire the Council with reference to an application made to the Railroad ;
Commission for a license or charter by an individual, for the operation
of a colored bus line between Miami and Homestead, stating that they
would like a resolution from the City that the present service offered
by the Coach Line and the Greyhound Lines is satisfactory. Mr. H. A
Sweat of the Greyhound Lines stated they would also like a statement
that the bus service thru South Miami is adeduatef that they are in a:
position where they can really give good service now. Following a
discussions Councilman Faust, seconded by Councilman Sapos, moved that
Resolution -#249 as dictated by Atty. ,'lard and reading as follows, be
adopted as read. Motion carried by polls as follows';

WBEREASt the City of South BTiami has been advised that one' John
M. Davis has made application to the Florida Railroad Commission'for per-
mit for the operation of an additional bus line from Homestead* Florida;
to Miami2 Florida, and
WI-MREAS2 the said Florida Railroad Commission is to consider said
application under date of I�9ay 18, 19469

1. That the bus service now being furnished to the City of South
Miami and immediate area to and from Miamij Florida and Coral Gables to
the North and Homestead tt� the south, has been adequate and satisfactory
to its,,eitizens.
2. That there appears to be 110 need or demand or public necessity
requiring additional service from additional lines.

Mr. A. S. Tyler appeared before the Council for an interpretation of
the Zoning c.rdinanee in a residential area, insofar as a secondary
use was concerned. Being interested in the chemical culture of
vegetables. At this point Counci_ lman Br own joined the meetin g.
It
was decided, however, that the zoning of that'area would have to
be changed before permit for the erection of their laboratory could
be granted, and agreed to work for a change ,in zoning for a strip
100 ft. w de along the West side of 'N. 4th Ave. from N. 4th St. to
N. 8th St.
A letter of complaint from James I. Morris was read, with reference
to the use of ,a lot in the residential area for the dumping and.
parking of wreclks. Councilman Gladdens secon,ed by Councilman Browns
moved that n. G. Gresham, Jr. of Gresham Motor Service, be notified>
to move everything off the lots zoned for residential use within 30 days
and cease the nuisance there, and to acknowledge the letter to Mr. y
Morris. Motion carried.

A lettrfrom the Cocoplum �Iomans Club was read, objecting to additional j
package stores in South IuIiami.
A letter from the Florida League of Municipalities regarding tax aid was
taken under advisement.

Sanitation: O.K. Following his recommendation to 'increase the pay of
a helper on the truck, Councilman Faust, seconded by Councilman Browns
moved that the helper's pay be increased to :35.00 per weekp as of
April 29 Motion carried by polls as follows:

Police: Chairman Brown reported that one of the 1. T. Price Co. tree rt.'
trucks hadn't cleared the traffic light at the Sunset d Highway inter-
section and that a new light had been installed and bills sent to
the Company's insurance agent. t
Chief McKinney reported on a suggestion from the Gables man to '
install a` 4 -gray light at Reea and the Highway and synchronize it with
the one at Red and Sunset,, stating that it was their belief the Gables., x�sr
would go half and half on such an arrangement.
Streets & Parks. It was reported that the County had patched the City's
streets recently.

Councilman Browns seconded by Councilman Claddeng moved that Crdinance ,
#153, caption of which follows, be placed on first reading in its
entirety. Motion carried.

Thereupon Councilman Brovint seconded by Councilman .Saposq moved,
that Ordinance 4''153 be placed on second reading by caption only.
Motion carried.

The present controversy concerning
the County's proposed re- zoning
of 11RIVIERA GARDEI +TS'' (North of Blue and West of Red) was thoroly
discussed. Councilman Gladdens seconded by Councilman Sapos, moved
that no objection would be offered
to re- Zoning by the county so that
veteran houses could be built north of Blue Roadq provided no
orange is made in residence zoning
along Red Road. Motion carried.
President Barrow, in the absence of Chairman Maples, brought up the
matter of getting some fog nozzles
for the fire truck from the Fabric
Fire Hose Co. Inasmuch as funds for equipment purchases were still
on handq Councilman Browne seconded by Councilman Gladden, moved
that the City purchase nozzles for
the booster, pumper and trailer.
Motion carried.
