1946 AT THE CITY HALL AT 8:00 Mi.
The meeting was called to order by Pros. Barrow with Mayor Vanderboegh�
Councilmen Gladden,, Sapos, Maples, Brown and Barrow and Atty. Ward
responding to roll- call.
IV[inutes of the regular meeting were approved as read.

A letter from the Coconut Grove Civic Clubt with .suggestions for zoning
in South.Wiami's colored sectiong was read. Councilman Maplesq seconded
by Councilman Gladden, moved that it be tabled. Motion carried.
A letter from Dr. L. C. Shanklin soliciting the job of making a moving
picture film of the South IUliami areal was next read. Councilman Gladdens
seconded by Councilman Browng moved that he be advised that the City
is not in the market at the present time. Motion carried.
A letter from the South Miami District Chamber of Commerce9 offering
its co— operation in any action of program that the City may institute
in regard to post -war projectsq was read and the Clerk instructed to
acknowledge receipt of same7; expressing appreciation of the Chamber's
action.
The need for the widening of the 'Highway south of Sunset Drive was
again stressed and the State Road Dept. was to be contacted again; on
the matter, inasmuch as the action promised by two of its representatives �
in a personal call at the City Hall on March 1 had as yet not materialized.

Atty. Ward reported on the CAMBRIDGI, LAINNS projectq stating that the
South Miami Riding Club had acquired the balance of approximately 30
acres, but it was not yet known just how much of that money would'
come back to South Miami. He also questioned the right of the City J
to spend any of that -money on a puUlie park site that is under
County dontrol.
Another attempt was to be made to get an abstract on the 20 acres on
Ludlum.Road owned by the City.
The application of John A. Sanders to keep a horse on his property at a
Ludlum and Sunset was checked in accordance with the rules and
regulations set at the special meeting of January "16, 1946 and found
to comply therewith. Councilman Gladdens seconded by Councilman
Maples;v moved the desired permit be granted. Motion carried.
With the Motion picture theater building about completed and applica-
tion for an occupation license filed with the Clerkq Councilman
Browns seconded by Councilman Maplesq moved that the license. be granted :}
when all =the: regulations have been complied with. Motion carried. }

Fire: Chairman �JIa l..s reported on the fire on April l2 at Ted Crno�ett'

place, stating that w ter.,was pumped to it 4 minutes from the time the
Pick-up truck pulled away from the City Hall with the trailer. quite
a number of the volunteer firemen responded to that call.
Police: O.K., except that the last minute rush for car inspections.

Streets & Parks: Receipt of a check for $334.48 from the County Road
& Bridge Fund was reported. Atty. V-1ard reported on conferences with
the railroad officials,- Mr. ,Anderson, in particular - regarding
proper signals at the crossings, and stated that considerable pres-
sure was being brought to bear from various sources, to correct the
present unsatisfactory and inadequate signals. John Harper,t who
had undertaken to repaint the street signs quite some time ago and
had done the preliminary work of coating them black, was to be told to
get the work completed without further delay or other arrangements would
have. to be made.
Buildings: Nothing new,
Following a discussion on the still pending applications for additional
package stores2 Councilman Browne seconded by Councilman Map'lesq moved
that Sec. 2b of ordinance #128 be changed only to permit two package
stores in the present north 2500 ft. zone on the Highway, and that
distances from schools, churches, etc. are to be measured as a pedestrian
would walk along a dedicated street, and that the applications and checks
on the other locations be returned -. Motion carried.

Insofar as the proposed daylight saving for the summer months was
concerned, it was decided to make no decision but wait to see what
the majority of the surrounding communities: do.
