The meeting was called to order by Pres. Barrow, with Counc-ilmoi
Gladden, Sapos, Faust, Maplos and Barrow responding to roll, call.
.Minutes of the regular meeting c,f September 4 were approved as
read,
Minutes of the regular meeting scheduled for September lay which
had to be adjourned to September 25, A.D. 1945 for lack of a
quorum., were also approved as read.
A general discussion regarding the law suit coming up for a.hear-
ing on September 272 on the application of the Dixie Pig for a
package store license, resulted in .agreement to defend the
action, and that Councilmen Brown and Gladden attend the hearing'
with Municipal Judge E. L. Thompson and the Clerk.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:

Finance: Chairman Gladden reported that it had been necessary {
to borrow from the Debt Service Fund to meet the September 15
payroll.
Sanitation: Chairman Faust reported that B. W. Thompson replaced

gave the Mayor and President of -the Council the power to act in
an emergency and that arrangements had been ctmpletod to hire Harry-

At this pint Councilman Brown joined the meeting.
The possibility of ,getting further 'help from the Navy to clear av:ay �
the storm debris was discussed and Councilman Faust agreed to look
the matter. He then asked to be excused From the meeting.
Fire: Chairman I.Iaples reported that arrangements had been completed
whereby 2. H. Rogers went back to his regular vr_.rk as fireman on
Septomber 249 and Councilman Maplesq seconded by Councilman Gladden

moved that nay for substitute fireman from September lb to Soptem-
ber 23 be split be'tveen Rogers and I,telton, and be added to their 1
September 30 pay cheeks. Motion carried by poll, as follows

September 25 and that a new man (W.O. Tanner) was expected on
September 26 or 27,
In connection with the proposed well at the Fuchs bakery7 it had
been stated that Mr. Fuchs wanted a drilled well or no well. In-
asmuch as there is no provision in the budget for such an expenditure
at the present time, it was decided that the matter would have to
reset; at lino well. 11
Councilman Maples brought up the question of the youngsters hanging
around the pool room and the City Hall a_nd it was definitely decided
that this be discouraged.
Streets & Parks: In accordance with a report made earlier in the
evening, Councilman Naples7 seconded by Councilman Brown$ moved that
Barry Hagens be placed on the pay -roll at $35.00 per week for the
next 2 or 3 weeks,, beginning 'September 25, checks-to be issued out
of the Contingency Fund. Motion carried" by polls; as follows:

Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Gladden7 moved that overtime
on storm clearance work on September 16 and September 23 be paid at {
the rate of $ 75 per houi:, out of the Contingency Fund. Motion
carried by poll, as follows:

s Buildings: Chief McKinney was called into the meeting to outline
his suggestions for the conversion of the back room (originally
built for Civilian Defense Headquarters, during the war) into a
jail and making the present jail into a detention cell and office.

Councilman Gladden seconded by Councilman Maples, moved that the
bills be paid as road. Motion carried by poll, as follows
