OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH
MIAMI HELD TUB, ESDAY EVENINGq AUG-
UST 2 -12 A.D. 1945 AT THE CITY HALL
AT 8:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Vice -Pros. Browne with Mayor Vander
boegh and Councilmen Gladden, Sapos, Maples and Brown responding. to
roll call. Councilman Faust joined the meeting during the reading of
the minutes of the regular meeting of August 71 which were adopted as
read.
Reports of standing committees were as follows
Finance;; O.K.
Sanitation, Chairman Faust reported that he had a bulldozer in the
City dump for 5 hours to get it worked over and also got the road
leading io it fixed up2 and that the charge would be at the rate of
$10.00 per hour. He also hoped to get a grader in there to finish
the road, from Miller Rd. to the pit. In connection with this and
other outside work, such as street repairs: inspections2 etc.2 he
suggested a change in police chief and the appointment of a men who
could undertake this work as well., in the course of2his police duties.
Streets & Parks: absent
Buildings: Chairman Sapos stated that 'he intended to get together
with Atty. :yard on the Root matter.'
Police: Chairman Brown brought up the matter discussed earlier in the
meeting'2,of a change in the police department set -up and expressed' his
belief that if it could be worked, to make an entirely new duty out of
its giving the new man the responsibility of the police department and
all outside work. Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Saposq
moved that Mcniinrey be replaced as chief of police at $210.00 per month,
effective as soon as a new man can take over. Motion carried.
Mayor Vanderboegh presented a letter from the Dade County Co- ordinating'
and Planning Committoe asking for financial assistance. Councilman
Gladden, seconded by Councilman Sapos, moved that the matter be tabled
until further information can be obtained. Motion carried.
There .,as a discussion rogardiag the forthcoming election on the school
district consolidation7 but no definite action or expressions were made.
