1945-02-20 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MTGMINUTES OF THE R:+OGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH MIAMI HELD TUESDAY EVMWING, FEBRUARY 20` A-D. 1945 AT THE CITY HALL' AT 8:00 P.M. A letter from Preston Birds, Chairman of the Dade County Safety Council was read. Councilman Maplest seconded by Councilman Gladden, moved that the Council endorse the principles expressed in the letter but that action on financial support be held over until Atty. Ward can check the legal angles.- Motion carried,. Reports of standing committee's were as follows Finance. O.K. Sanitation: Absent Fire: O.K. Police: Chairman Bennett reported that he had put L. R. Geiger on the police force with the understanding that it is a temporary appointment subject to the recommendation of the new Police Chairman who will take office on March 1. It was agreed that the matter of ordering uniforms also be held in abeyance until that time, and Councilman Barrows second- ed by Councilman Bennetts, moved that the temporary appointment of L. R. Geiger at $180.00 per month as of February 9 be approved. Motion m' carried by polls, as follows; Gladden yes Barrow yes Maples yes Pope yea Bennett yes Brown yes Streets & Parks: There was a general discussion on ways and means of repairing the streets and cutting and maintaining the parkways along `w Ithe streets. Atty. Ward was instructed look into the legal ang les of making one large improvement district and assessing the property along streets as they are re- built. Buildings: O.K. Mayor Vanderboegh had no report to make on his special committee, re- garding the Girls' Dance Unit. Pres. "lard discussed the latest developments in the CAMBRIDGE LAVINS tax deed matterg stating that there are quite a few angles to its and that as nearly as they can figure it outp the City has about 80% of all tax certificates against the property. It was a question of whether the property was too valuable to be kept for park purposesq but no definite action was taken at this time. An offer from metal street ions at Harper per assembly was read. Councilman Marlese F seconded by Counnccilman,Gladdeng moved that the street signs be painted at that price. Motion carried. The following bills were submitted for approval and payments ; Florida Power & Light Co:. 194.98 street lights, Feb. c City of Miami 50.00 police radios Feb.
