1945-02-06 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MTGMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING CF 'THE' CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH fi+iIAMIS FLORIDA IELD TUESDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 6, A.D. 1945 AT THE CITY HALL AT 9:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Pres. Brown with Mayor Vanderboegh and Councilmen Gladden.) Maples,, Popes Bennett and Brown responding to roll call. Minutes of the regular meeting of January 16 were approved as read. Iverson Head appeared before the Council to lodge a complaint against the 'keeping of chickens in excess of the permitted number on the property immediately adjoining his lots, stating that the condition existing there has lost him the sale of his property on two different occasions. He was asked to file a written complaint and assured the ordinance would be enforced. Jean.Bagley and Joan Johnson; as representatives of the girls comprising the South Miami Dance Unit, which entertains service men at camps and hospitals came to ask the Council to take over the sponsorship. In the course of discussion, in which Omar Stang and E.L. Thompson also took part, it was apparent that there had been friction and a definite split between the girls and their leaders and it was decided that be- fore any - action is taken, that the whole ,matter be 'thoroly gone into. Pres. Brown appointed Mayor Vanderboeghg'and Councilmen Pope: and Maples as a committee to investigate. Dr. I. Ogden came before the Council to ask permission to live in his trailer' which is parked on vacant late owned by himp stating he could not find other accommodationsg` and was down here for his health. die, was advised that this was contrary to the zoning ordinance and that such permission could not be granted. Edgar Shafer presented the application for renewal of the sponsorship of the Boy Scout troop 'I and Councilman Maples seconded by Councilman Bennett, moved that the City sponsor Troop 23 for another year and that Mayor Vanderboegh sign the application. Motion carried. It was decided that the old booster hose be kept for a spare and not sold. Reports of standing, committees were as follows Finance O.K. Audit being made. Sanitation: Absent. Fire Absent. The Clerk reported receipt of the new booster hose* Police: Chairman Bennett reported the department was down to 2 men.againt with the resignation of John R Roby on Jan. 27, and if he finds another' man, he will be taken on with the understanding that it is a temporary position until the new council comes in Streets & Parks: Streets still needing repairs. Buildings: O.K. The following recommendations were received From the Advisory Zoning =: Committees 1. That the application of Frederick Jennell for permission to erect a 20 x 20 native rock garage 50 ft. from the front lot line and centered on two 1ots9 be granted with the further provision that the building; is to be used exclusively as a residential garage. 2.
