The meeting was called to order by Fres. Brown with Mayor Vanderbc.egh,
Councilmen Barrotr, Faustq Bennett? Brown and Chinn responding to roll;
call.
Minutes of the regular meeting of September 5 were approved as read
Jean Bagley and Lou Riley were present to thank the Council on behalf
of the girls of the Service Men's Canteen for everything that had been
done for them, for favors in the past years including the repairing of
the juke box.
At this point Councilman Faust asked to be excused.
Letters of thanks for the use of the Community Building from the home
Demonstration Club, the Recreation Division of the Dade.Coun.ty Defense '
Council and the Committee of the South Miami Recreation Center were duly,
read. Councilman Bennettt seconded by Councilman'Barro^1, moved that
these groups be permitted to carry on in the coming year under the same
conditions as in the past. Motion.carried
Reports of standing committees were as follows
Finance absent.
Sanitation: absent.
y' Fire: Chairman Barrow reported that it was hoped to get the necessary
priority for 200 ft. of,ibooster hose at 400 per ft. It was also agreed
that in the existing emergency, the regular police pay be split between
the two substitutes. Councilman Barrow seconded by Councilman Bennett,,
moved that the regular police wage ($I186.00 per month rate) be paid to
the two firemen for their overtime. Motion: carried by poll, as follows:

Police; Chairman Bennett reported that he vies hoping to get a new man
in the .near future.
Streets x Parks: Chairman Chinn reported that the Florida Fower & Light
Com ;any had submitted a new contract for a period of one year on the
basis of figures accel ted for the l;'4 4-11�4 j budget and ap, roved by Atty.
'lard. The new agreement, in the form of Resolution #236, was presented
as follows:

& Light Comjpany, which is set forth in form in Section 2 hereof, be

This relates to that certain Street Lighting Agreement noyl
in effect between ust dated the 7th day of January. 1930, and to
all supplementary agreements thereto which; Agreement and supplementary
agreements expire on July 7 1944.

or increased in 'size, you will pay as in accordance with the applicable
attached new street lighting rate schedule (S -17)
It is understood and agreed that 'where the word "candlepower"
or liwatts" appears in the said Street Lighting Agreement and all supple-
mentary agreements thereto;,, the sane shall be amended to .read "lumen"
or "lumens," (as the case may be), and where a number appears indi-
cating the size in candlepower or watts of street lights in Article III
of the said Street Lighting Agreement and all supplementary agreements
thereto, the number shall be amended (a) with respect to csndlepo',:er
by adding thereto a cipher (i.e 100 candlepower would hereafter read
1000 lumen) and (b) with resi.ect to watts by considering that 75 watts
equals 1000 lumens (i.e. 75 watts would hereafter read 1000 lumens)
provided, however, that the provisions of this paragraph shall not
ajply to the word "candlepower" or "watts " where the same relate to
the above 11 -100 candlepower Street Lights and the above 14 -75 watt
Street Lights.
It is further understood and agreed that except as expressly
Provided herein, the said Street Lighting agreement and all supple-
mentary agreements thereto remain n full force and effec

this letter and the attached copies to be executed by your duly author-
