1944-07-25 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MTGMINUTDS OF THE, SPECIAL ISETING GF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF SOUTH LqI AMI HELD TUB, GDAY EVENING
JULY 259 A.D. 1944 AT TIM CITY HALL AT 8 -:00 P.N.
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Brown, with bayor`Vanderboeghv
Councilmen Gladden, Barrows Bostwick Faust) Bennett and Brown and
Atty. Ward responding to roll call.
The meeting had been called in accordance with motion duly made and
passed at the regular meeting of July 18, for the purpose of taking
final action on the proposed budget (Ord. #144) and for a hearing on
the proposed development of the Cambridge Lawns acreage.,
Mr. Chas. Fuchs presented Mr. L. D. Llewellyn, who had been appointed
chairman for the horse: show and rodeo of the South Miami Riding 'Club.
"r. Llewellyn stated that this project was an outgrowth of the South
Miami Riding Club and that in looking for a site they had come across
the Cambridge Lawns acreage which was ideal for their purposes. He
Aright Field and was experienced retired who had just returned from
introduced Ma'. Manner recently
in putth on such shows.
At this point Councilman Chinn joined the meeting.
Atty. Ward called attention to the following points:
1. The problem of !quieting title thru foreclosure or acquiring
title by tax deed. Inasmuch as the property is subdivided
into 388 lots there will always be the possibility of partial
or "spot" redemptions. A tax deed application would run
around $59000.00
2. The problem of deed restrictions in the event of redemptions.
3. Questions of zoning.
4. A matter for the Council to decide would be the question as to
how much property in the long rung the town - being small -
could afford to allocate to non- productive purposes. It
would have to show some kind of revenues for ultimately the
land would produce some sort of taxes.
It was pointed out that the City had a grand total of $9 060450 in this property, $89384.27 in City Certificates and the balance of
$676.32 paid out for County and drainage certificates. Atty. Ward
suggested that the President of the Council appoint a committee to
meet with the Riding Club committee to go further into the matter
and Pres. Brown appointed Mayor Vanderboeghg and Councilman Chinn of
Streets and Parks and Councilman Gladden of Finance to serve in this
capacity. Councilman Gladden, whose work at, present keeps him below
Homestead (with the State Road Dept.) suggested that he be replaced
by someone who would be more easily available for committee meetings
and Pres. Brown appointed Councilman Faust in his place.
It was generally agrees) that it would probably be best to put the
matter into private hands to be worked out.
At this point Councilman Barrow asked to be excused.
Councilman Bennetto seconded by Councilman Gladdens moved that Ord.
#144* caption of which fellows, be placed on third and final reading
