responding to roll call:

Rer•ular order of business 1,aas suspended to further discuss with a
committee from C- 0JB2IDGh LVITTSI headed by I.Ir Clare, G. Stout, the
questions and requests brought up at the last meeting. It was brought .
out that unless the County could be prevailed uion to do itq nothing
could be done at the present time about cleaiinE out the canal as
the City has -absolutely no facilities for such work, but that it was
hoped something could be worked out for the playground, altho at
present the City dies not have title t(, the property desired for that
purpose;, Police Chairman Bennett reported that the traffic
signs were ordered but difficulty in obtaininz: same of the necessary
materials was causing a delay in getting them finished and installed.
On the matter of bus transportation Is. Stout reported that they
themselves had not as yet completed the survey necessary before taking
it up with the bus comb airy.

Piro: Chairman Barrow reported that fire hazards had decreased con-
- siderably since the much- needed rain, and that the City truck and
men had saved the Dorn grove last o'ednes&y, when they answered a
call from the County, which had 5 fires at one time.
Police : Chairman Bennett rel;,orted that the new cur had been ordered
but to date no acinoYilor.F;me.lnt of the txdor had beon received.

on that dray duly and legally held, the Cizy Council passed and adopted
its Resr lutio � NU 230 ordering certain rhz.�E hway improvements to be
done in said City of Couth is ami, Florida, a description of which more
fully appears in said resolution L230, and to -,,4hich Resolution for
such description reference is here made, and
ID.;RO"109 subsequently thereto after due and legal notice duly and
legally published, culling and. providii -Q, for- the hearing of objections
upon the part of all interested persons, the City Council at its meet-
ing held at 8: o'clock P.M., on I ay 21 19447 did hear and con-
sider all objections presented by interested persons to the confirma-
tion of said Resolution No. 230 ordering said highway improvements,
and the plans, ! j ecifications and estimate: of cost therefor and no
objection to ` said, imp rovemenzs, ,Mans, specifications and estimate of
cost having; been sustained, the said Resolution No.230;so orderiz
said improvements to be made,; was by a majority vote of the City
Cotuzcil duly confirmed,

A letter was read, from County Commission Chairman Preston Bird, ad-
vising that very necessary re- surfacing of Sunset Drive from Red road
to Ludlam road ivould be ,given attention at an early date,
Chairman Chinn also brought up the matter of appointing; a playground
director for- the summer months, stating that 1rs. Jewett, Sr. had
applied for the positicn, but that he iliished to cell the Council's
attention to the fact that she lives in sigh Pines and not in South
Miami proper. In view of the difficulty in getting any ones it was
left up to Chairman Chinn to work this out, and waive residence re-
quirements, if necessary.
In connection with the proposed road work it vas agreed that the neces-
sary survey be made and orades put in just before the work is started.

Councilmen Be uiett and Barmw reported that the Fire Depts had helped
out the Police Bopt., sinoe :.rril 22, so that the 2 police; ctuld patrol
at night, followint, the recent re:bbevius, with, ...offers bc:iri: on in the

day as police and kr:elton as fireman, and each taking turns for the
night shift as fireman. Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman
Bostwick , moved that I.,elton and iogers each be paid X30.00 for this
oift
extra time. Motion carried by poly as follows;

It was also agreed that for the present Rol;ers remain on the day shift
and Melton take the night shift, and both police 'work" the night` shift.
Councilman Barrow reported that the South Miami Chamber of Commerce
had applied to the F.B.C. for permission to, put up .1 shelter for
servicemen waiting for rides, in the vicinity of the old station
grounds. This met with the approval of the Council.
The Clerk: reported the receipt of a letter containing ' power of attorney,
to the wife of the former owa7er of the abandoned car which is to be
rut up for sale on Thursday, per legal notice , and it was agreed that
proceeds over and above costs be sent her:
