1944-03-21 MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MTG1,INUTES OF TIC; Rr,,1GULAR YEETING OF TFiF. CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH IviIAMI IISLD TUESDAY WPNING V MARCH 219 A.D. 1944 AT Ti CITY HALT, AT 8:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Vice -Pres. Bostwick3, with Mayor Vanderboegh and Councilmen Gladden, Barrow, Faust, Chinnq Bennett and Bostwick responding to roll call. Councilman Chinn stated that Mrs. Riley had asked for the use of the Community Building 3 nights each month for rehearsal purposes by Mr. Schwartzman and the troup of girls he is 'training for USO shows. Councilman I3arrow,_seconded by Councilman Gladden2 moved that the Council grant.this request, with the understanding that the three :nights a month must conform to the schedule. Motion carried. At this point Pres. Brown joined the meeting and took overt and Mayor I Vanderboegh and Counc'ilm4n.Faust were excused. Minutes of the regular meeting of March 7 were approved as read. 1!1r. Luther Copley Attorneys representii- the ovmers of RIVIERA GA1ZD NS$ appeared before the Council with a request for the adjustment of outstanding tax certificates on that property. As these taxes were for the year 1935, the Council agreed to settle them for 50% of the face and no interests plus'eancellation fees payable at the Court House, per Resolution #190. The Clerk presented the offer of old Mr. Larkins of a picture of himself - the original settler of South Miami and the Council agreed that it would be most fitting to hang it on the wall of the City Hall. Reports of standing committees were as follows: Finance: O.K. Sanitation Absent. Fire: O.K. Police: O.K. Streets & Parks: Nothing further to report, as yet. Buildings: U.K. Pres. Brown stated he intended to pull down the old frame buildings and replace it with a concrete onep as soon as possible (depending on prioritie0 , which met with the approval of the entire Council. Councilman Barrow stated that at the last Chamber of Commerce meeting the question of providing shelters along the Highway for soldiers waiting for rides had been raised and the Council agreed that this would be o.k.
