FE%ust, with Layor Vanaerboegh, and CounciLnen Dostlaick Barrow, Bennett, a6d Faust responding to roll call Vice -Pres. Faust read the notice for the meeting -which had been called , for the urj use of discussing the police radio contract. Councilman Bennett stated th:�t L:iami had sent out c; ntracts for signature the day before, but before having them signed, wanted the Council to consider the matter and asked Chief '.:iegand to e plaii what Ile had ill mind. Chief 'riegand stated that he had talked uvith the director of the estate I3ighviay Patrol,, Air. J. J. Gilliam, who stated that they ;would give free service: to South Miami i.f the City furnished its oven equipment. This Viould provide car -to -car comm=ication with a definite range of 30 ° to 35 miles. It 4vould be necessary to get trio sets ;rf equipment, one for the car and one for the station, at X500.00 per sets which would make direct communication bettioen the police car and station possible. Cn the other hand, the contract from Miami, which had been brought out must be signed immediately, according to the PXX., and sent to ' ashington. Chief ",iegand ` stated that he believed he could borrow a transmitter and receiver until such time as the City could uochase its own, and that the latter could be i'.urchased. Fol'lov ng a lengthy discussion, Councilman. Bost,�iick, seconded by Councilman Bennett, moved that if ,tty. ",'ard does not approve of making a change at this time, and the City cannot make proper connections by Friday afternoon with the state patrol, that the contract with Liaini be signed. Motion carried. otuicilman Bennett stressud the fact that he ,ranted Atty. ..ard to have a thoroucrh tulderstanding of the situation.
