The meeting was called to order by Tres. Brown with Mayor Vander
boegh and Councilmen Gladden, Bostwick, Barrow, Chinn, Bennett and Brown
c.. responding to roll call;.
Minutes of the regular meeting of September 7 were approved as read.
A letter from City Manager Curry of liiami, regarding a meeting on
municipal post -war planning, to be he.Ld on uctober 19, was read but
no action taken at this time.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:

Police: ;O.K., exc <el,t for the temporary absence of Chief ','iegand, due
to his mother's death, and Councilman Bennett, seconded by Council-
man Bostwick, moved 'that telegraph order for a $10.00 funeral piece
be O.K.'d and that letters of thanks for their co- operation during
Chief's absence be written to Sgt. Norton of the State Highway Patrol
and former officer J.. V% Strong Motion carried..
Streets Marks: Chairman Chinn reported that he had gotten the
mower, a "Jari"', that it seems in good mechanical shape except that the ,
M blades need sharpening, that it works well on tall grass but not so goad'
��'!?!�,lI on regular lawn grass, which might be partly due to the condition of
the blades. The price for the mower "as is" was X50. (when new was
$185.00) - and parts are available at Hector Supply Co.; He believed
it should cost not over $25.00 to put the mower into first class shape,
and wanted to know the Measure of the Council. Councilman Bostwick,
seconded by Councilman Barrow, moved that the City buy the mower and
have it put into first class Condition.; hlotlon carried;.
At this point, Mrs. Robt. Riley appeared bet-'ore the Council regarding
the Saturday night parties that have been held for service men at the
Community Building, asking for a "lease for another year or for the.
duration," required by the Defense Council Recreation 'Center. Follow-
in a discussion, it was suggested she bring in a copy of the rules
and regulations of the Defense Council Recreation Center, and it was
agreed that the dances continue under the present set -up for the time
being.
The light at Sunset and Red still heeds fixing, but it was believed the
County was working on the City's request to install a blinker there,
k as someone had been out to check it.
Mayor Vanderboegh stated that the attendance at the South Ivsiami Ele-
mentary School had increased to such an extent that his 2o1clock bus was
overloaded with the addition of the South Liiami youngsters getting
out at that time, and it was agreed that the City make its own run
for that group.

Councilman Barrow presented a request, on behalf of the South RMiam
Baptist Church for use of the Community Hall on Sunday mornings`�for
meetings. It was decided, however$ for various reasonsl that this
w�a request could not be granted,
Councilman Bostwick seconded by Councilman Gladden, moved that
Grdinance [1439 caption of which follows, be placed on third and
final reading in its entirety. Motion carried.

that Ordinance 4143 be adopted as read. Motion carried by poll, as

A request had been made for the sale of the motorcycle, and fbllowir
a discussion, Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Barrow, moved
that the City sell it if it can get '0"350.00 for it. Motion carried

In connection with the Horsley bill, Councilman.Rostwick made the
recommendation that the City check on its insurance p+oliei.os as they
fall due.
