The meeting ivas called to order by Pres. Brownq with Mayor Vanderboegh and Councilmen Gladden, -Barrow? Faust' Bostwick_ and Brown and Atty. V. -G. Ward responding to roll calla Minutes of the regular ,meeting of fay 4 were approved as read. At this point Councilman Chinn joined the meeting. Mayor Vanderboegh brought up the question of' the ;proposed change' in status of the South 'Miami post office and Mrs. Palmer's request for endorsement of her petition to the Postoffice Department that South Miami be made a branch of the main office at Miami in the belief that it will better the postal service. fc r the community. Councilman Bostwickt seconded by Councilman Faust, moved that the City Clerk be authorized to write a letter requesting that change. Motion carried. Reports of standing committees were as follows Finance; O.K. Sanitation: Chairman Faust reported trouble again, with the drains at the Paxson apartments and that the County health officer.had been called to check the matter. He also stated that there were a good many flies around but that the City dump was :in good conditions and that the flies must be from the increased number Of chickens. Fire_ O.K. .Chairman Barrow stated that George Wieganc had offered $2 ;.00 for the old fire truck (not including' the pump) y and that the City of Miami had stated it had no use for any parts that might be salvaged from it. Councilman Faustt seconded by Councilman Bostwickq moved the truck be sold to Wiegand for $25.00.. Motion carried by poll, as follows:;' Gladden yes Barrow yes Faust yes Chinn yes Bostwick yes Brown ye Police: Absent. Streets & Parks: Chairman Chinn reported that he. had had two com- plaints about the crossing; at Sunset and Redq and that some had sugLested that stop signs be painted on the Sunset Drive'sides Pres. Brawn objected to that because of the school children using the crassangl. and it Was agreed that the stop signs should be painted on Red Road, with "Caution" on Sunset. Councilman Bostwick, seconded by Councilman Darrow, made a motion to that effect. Motion carried. Buildings: O.K. At (this point Councilman Faust asked to be excused. Mr. B. L. Thom =stun appeared ppeared before the Council to ask whether street and easement now Matted on the Reil.].y- Storrs- Vaxsoft subdivision could be moved to the edge of the City's property to provide basket ball and cthor facilities on the present ,street. The matter vras CD; u " discussed and Atty. ;,lard instructed to look into the matter. Councilman Chinn reported that the regular meeting; of ,the Dade County health Unit had been(tpostponed last w6ek, due in part to the fact that there are some balls before the State Legislature which would 1,ut the Unit on a working basisq that it had been suggested that the City send a wire to Sen. Graham urging passage of the bills and'that the as represantative of the smaller communi- ties this had been done over the signature of Tlayor Vanderboegh. The bus situation Is again discussed and Atty. ?ard Y• , suggested a letter be directed to City Manager A. B. Curry of Miami asking that the existing franchise be enforced regarding the taking on and 'passengers letting off of in area where they can be served by Miami busesp in an relieve effort to congestion on the' South, Miami buses and the Clerk was instructed to do this. ° Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Bostwick moved that the City the settle outstanding tax certificates in the Alropa suit ° for $100.00 plus $14.88 for the 1942 taxes. Motion carried by poll, as follows; Gladden, yes' Barrow yes Chinn yes Bostwick yes Brown yes' The question of making an adjustment of back taxes on the property of the Land Realty Co. (A. 0 Renuart)t also involved in a Quo .arranto suit, was brought up and the Clerk instructed'to suggest that Mr. Renuart make a- reasonable offer. Councilman Gladden • seconded by Councilman Bostwick moved that the appraisal fee of $5.00 on the application of J. C.�Smith to move a building in, Cn- permit No. 8881 be paid to E. L Thompson,, Building Inspector.
