MINUTES OF THE REGULAR AEEETING CF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH LiIAMI HELD TUESDAY -

The meeting was called to order by Pres. Broim with Mayor Vanderboeghg
Councilmen Bostwick, Barrow, Chinni Bennett and Brown and Atty. H. F.
Ward present.
Minutes' of the regular ,meeting of iipril 20 were approved as read.
There was a discussion on the bus situation, the general opinion being
that some improvement_ had been shown and that it evidently was up to
_
the drivers.
In connection with the request of S. H. :clever for permission to close
the streets on his property in PAIX MIAlL'I IIEIGIITS, a letter from Jeff
Gautier was read, stating that he had no objection to the closing of
91st Street* IMMMOM The Counc'il's action was to refer to the
minute's of the regular meeting of April 6 regarding the matter.
Reports of standing committees were as follows;
Finance,: Absent.
Sanitation: Absent
Fire: Chairman Barrow brought up the question of providing for another
fireman, so that twelve -hour shift - could be arranged. It was agreed
that under the present set -upt Me con's position was very confining,
and that the Council try to work out a means of providing for the 12-
hour shift arrangementf and look around for a second man, Chairman
Barrow also reported that the work done' on the fire wells by Price
Company had proved an expensive operation, with a tentative 'bill of
$167-11 for 4 days' work on 4 wells.
Police: G.K.,
Streets & Parks s Receipt of the County's check for $262.86 as the
City's 6T Road and Bridge money, was reported. It was also
agreed that some road repair work: was needed but that it was a question
of whether the material could be gotten.
3uldinES Chairman Bostwick reported that he had looked into the
matter of-the Shevitz "shack" complained about at a fomer meeting
that it was a chicken coop, visible to anyone coming south from Bird
Road but hardly visible to anyone coming north from Miller Road,
'
being behind the trees, and that ieteing painted white and looks
more like a 2 -carp garage, and that there is definitely no one living
in it. The Council decided that it would take action only if an in-
dividual giants to make a formal complaint.
Councilman Bostwick= seconded by Councilman Bennett, moved.that
Resolution ;#223 be read. Motion carried.

WEMREAS in the future growth of this area an adequate
water supply is the first essential to the health and economic growth
of the community, and
WHEREAS some study and research is necessary for the
pi:- eservation of the natural water supplies of this area, and ,
�MREAS the City of South Miami has been advised that
the ;,ater Board of the City of Miami has been ccl-iducting a research
and survey to this ends
NO -W THEREFOR, BE IT RESOLVED AT THE CITY 'CF SOUTH
MIAMI does hereby request the City of Miami ',`rater Board to continue
in such research and to that end offers its cooperation and
assistance.

Councilman Bostwick, seconded by Councilman Barrow;, then moved that
Resolution #223 be adopted as read. Motion carried.
Mayor Vanderboegh read a letter from the Superintendent of Station
and Freight Claims of the FF,C advising , they would look into the
matter of keeping the South Miami station open through the summer.
There was a general discussio'i as to the Chamber of Commerce's action
on the proposed charges in the City's bowidaries and it was decided
to ;let the Chamber officials contact those noti,r out of the City to
get their re- action, as proposed, a-rid the Council let matters rock along.
for the time being.
It, was also suggested that the City mi€;ht be reimbursed by the County
for the money spent in Civilian Defense` activities,) and the Clerk
was instructed to address a letter to County Commissioner Payson with
such a request.
Mayor Vanderboegh, called the Council's attention to the fact that
work on the forthcoming budget must be started score and suggested
that all department hLads got busy and begin f i €,uriru; oil the needs
of their respective departments.
Tres. Brown brought up the matter of auxiliary fire trucks, to be
equipped with pumps by the Defense Council and suggested that effort's
be made, to locate several such in this,.area.
Councilman Chinn brour,-ht up the a uestion of mrr(:pc.z• parking around
Abie's Lunch Room, which at times blocks the street the n, and it was
turned over to the Police Deg artment ft r attentioon.

It was also decided to send flowers for the funeral of Commissioner
Joe i11itley of Coral Gables:v who had passed away on Monday.
