1943-04-06 MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MTGMINUTES OF THE REGULAR ' 11EETING OF T-1-F. CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH MIAMI MELD TUESDAY ET'SNING9 APRIL 61 A.D. 1943 AT THE CITY BALL AT 8:00 P. M The meeting, was called to order by Fres. Brown with Mlayor Vanderboegh and all members of the Councils and Atty. i -,?ard present. Minutes of the regular meeting of March 16 were approved as read'. The request of S. H. '!lever for permission to close Pinelan Drive on his part of PAUJ MIAMI HLIGHTS (Tracts 5 and 9) was gone into, and the clerk'instructed . to check with the County engjneer to see if they will.ap prove such a cicaingg andf if sod to advise Mr. Wever that the. City will approve a new plat showing that change,., In response to asrequest from John Allison, Attorney, as to whether the.,City will consider selling the 20 ` acres on Ludlum Road in Seca 26, the Clerk was instructed to advise Mr,. Allison that the City was not specially interested in disposing of the property at this time, but would suggest that he make a definite offer and also state to what use the property :would be put. Mayor Vanderboegh stated that he had written a recommendation to Sheriff Coleman for a deputy sheriff's appointment for V. D. Bryant. This met with the consent of the Council.' Atty. :'lard raised the question of the advisability of having the South Miami police also made deputy sheriffs and it was decided to leave this up to :Chairman Bennett for action. Reports of standing committees were as follows: Finance: O.K. Sanitation: O.K. Chairman - .Faust reported that the County Health inspector wants to have a "clean -up week" in South Miami but in the course of the discussion the question of the City's being able to haul it all was raisedg and it was decided to approve, the project only if the 'County can help in the removal of the trashq etc. Chair- man Faust also stated that the dump body on the truck was O.K. and that he had given the final O.K. for payments as per authorization at the last meeting.' He stated that someone was dumping refuse from a chicken farm at the edge of the pit but that up to the present had not been able to find out who was doing it. Fires Chairman Barrow stated that a letter had been received from the Eureka Fire Hose Division stating that the hose they could sell the City under the priority rating would take pressure up to 400 lbs. It was 'decided to let the hose order rideq and use the funds instead to get small equipment) including a pick -up truck on which one of the Defense Council pumps could be ' mounted. He also stated that all 'the fire wells needed deepening and it was agreed that he look into the matter'. Police Everything m K. Streets & Parkst O.K. �a Buildings: Chairman Bostwick called the Council's attention fact leohe that it was time to check the City FIail roof for re- pairs before the rains started and it was left up to him to take care of. There was a discussion agai,ng on action taken.; the bus situations but no definite ' Atty. :lard discussed the water situation in Miami which has become serious and suggested that South Miami take the lead in offering its assistance a and co- operation in backing up legislation to give the Everglades Drainage District g and conservation problems in the control over drainages reclamation water table insofar as the South glades areas and control over the Florida area is affected. Councilman Bostwicki seconded by Councilman Gladden2 moved that Attorney lard draw up ,a resolution to that effect. Motion carried.
