THE CITY. COUNCIL OF SOUTH MIAMI HELD
TUESDAY
EIV NINGS OCTOBER 6, A.D.1942`
AT THE CITY k4ff AT 8.00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Faust! with Mayor Vanderboegh,
Councilmen Bostwick, Browny 'Chinnq Bennett and Faust
and Atty. H F.
Ward responding to roll call.
Minutes of the regular meeting of September 15 were approved as read.
A letter from Miami's City Manager A. B. Curry containing a, question-
naire on salaries
on certain.positions in city servicey was read,
and Councilman Bostwick;t seconded by Councilman Browny moved that
the Clerk check with the other smaller' municipalities and answer
accordingly- Motion carried.
A letter from the Dade Commonwealth Title Co-I, regarding the microfilming
Of vital records7 was
read and after a discussion, Councilman Bennett,
seconded by Councilman Bostwickt moved that action be 'tabled'
until
the next meetings the Clerk to check with surrounding municipalities
to see what they are
going to do about it. Motion carried.
A letter from Miami's city attorney regarding the proposed radio com-
munication service -of the Dade County Defer_se Council, was read, in
Which it was stated that Miami was 4- iposed to this, but no direct
answer given to the question as to whether the existing, contracts of
the municipalities with Miami for °Police radio
service permitted the
execution of a similar agreement with the Defense Council for defense
Purposes. In view of the existing controversy! it was decided to
take no further action at this time.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:
Finance. Absent.
Sanitation. O.K.
Fire. O.K. Chairman Brown brought up the question of a further increase
in pay of the man relieving Melton,g amounting to approximately 50%. After
a discussion it
was decided that if E. Ericson would take the post at
the present rate of $1.00 per night and $2.00 for Sundays, to put him
on.
Police. O.K.
Streets & Parks. O.K. It was decided to see whether the County patch
wagon could be gottenf as in previous years, to make very necessary r'oe4
repairs
With school again in session, and.traffic on Red Road increased thru
the activities at Chapman Field, it was decided to put the traffic
light at Red and Sunset back into service.
Councilman Bennett presented several sketches of bulletin boards for
honor rolls, and Councilman Bostwick
recommended that he get estimates
on..them for the next meeting. This was agreeable to all.
Buildings. Chairman Bostwick brought up the question that has been
raised regarding the stabling of horsest with the suggestion that
owners obtain signed agreements from adjoining neighbors to permit the
erection of such shelters. The need for some sort of control from a sani-
tary standpoint was also brought out and it was decided that Ordinance
#119, providing for the maintenance and.kee i of cows be amended to

A request for the adjustment of tax certificates on Lots 24 and 25 Of
Block 9, TOWNSITE OF LARKINS was presentedt and Councilman Brown,, second-
ed by Councilman Bostwickq moved that these be settled in accordance
with the tt;rms of Resolution x#190. Motion carried by polls as follows;

Councilman Bostwick„ seconded by Councilman 'Brown. moved that Councilman
Gladden who is working out of Key Vilest on a defense project, be granted
leave of absence from the next three meetings. Motion carried.
