EVENING, JWgE 2 A.D. 1942 AT THE CITY
HALL AT 8:00 P.h.
The meeting was called to order by President Faust with Iblayor Vander -
boegh and Councilman Bostwick Browns Bennett Faust
and responding
to roll call.
Minutes of the regular ,meeting of May 19 were approved as read.:
Reports of standing committees were as follows:
Finance: Absent
Sanitation:. Everything G.K.
Fire: t�.K. Chairman Brown reported that Chief Melton was on vacation
and Councilman Bostwickf seconded by Councilman
Bennett, moved that
the substitute, E. Ericson, be paid $3.00 per day, for'the two
week
period. Motion carried by poll2 as follows:

Chairman Brown asked that the City buy a load of sand for free distri-
bution to people provided they bring buckets' to keep it ii-it
and it
was agreed that this be done.
Streets &Parks: A general discussion regarding the street lights for
the duration resulted in a motion by Councilman Bennett seconded by
w
Councilman Bostwick, that the Mayor appoint President Faust a committee
of one to confer with Mr. Fuller and see what could be done about
shutting off at least a large part of them. Motion carried.
Councilman Bostwick, seconded by Councilman Brownf moved that Helen
Baxter be the
placed on pay -roll, effective as of June , at $50.00
per month9 for the summery as playground supervisor. Motion carried
by poll, as follows

Police: Chairman Bennett reported that E. ;1, INIeKinney had resigned
sand "that he wished to recommend that no replacement be made at present,
that the special police (volunteers) would help until
something else
could be worked out.
Chairman Bennett also stated that Mrs. C}iegand, Sr. had left South, Miami
and that A. B. Coro (of Abie l s Lunch) was willing to furnish
the
prisoners' meals at the same rate, 30¢ per plate.. This '% -Jas agreeable
to the entire Council.

The clerk eras instructed to virite,^a letter to the Dade County School
` Board,; stating that the City would be responsible for the Colored
School. Building on the nights that the Colored First Aid Class met.
