CITY COUNCIL OF tCUTH JAIAA':I HELD TULSDAY
LNEPTIIdG, IAY 199 A. D. 1942 AT THE '.CITY
HALL. AT 8:00 P. NE.
The meeting was called to order by Pres Faust, with Mayor Uanderboegh
and Councilmen Faust % - Bostwick, Brown and Bennett responding to roll
call. Atty. Ward was available, if necessary, but had :asked to be
excused to attend a meeting of DuPont Bldg. tenants who were facing
an Ouster because the Navy Dept. needed additional space in the building.
Minutes of the regular meeting of bjay 5 were approved as read.
A letter from American Legion headquarters, advising that no definite
form of service flag had as yet been decided upon, was read, and the
matter of a local service flag ordered tabled until such time as a
decision is reached
Reports of standing committees were as follows;
Finance. Councilman Gladden had sent in a request to be excused from
meetirZs for the next 60 days, because of absence from the City on
Defense work, and Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Brown
moved that the request be granted,. Motion carried.
Sanitation. Mayor Vanderboegh reported on some fliesv which had been
taken care of, but a discussion on the rats at the pit resulted in a
decision to attempt to poison them..

Streets & Parks: In the continued absence of Councilman Core, Atty

in full force and effect and the post of Councilman Core vacant as of
midnight, May 19. Motion carried by poll, as follows:

Buildings: O.K.
A general discussion was held regarding the organization of the first
aid center, and the fact that in an emergency the continued services of
a physician could not be relied on so that it would be well to have
several good registered nurses available, who, with the help of first
ciders, could minister to the needs of victims until such time as a
doctor could arrive.
A report showing the status of the current budget expenditures was dis-
tz•ibuted at this time and the Mayor requested each department head to
consider the needs of his department foie the coning year. 'Vith balances
still available in the salary accounts of the Fire and Sanitary de-
partments it was decided that these men take their vacation during the
current fiscal years and Councilman Bostviickt seconded by Councilman

Brown ?_moved that =pay checks for substitutesy at the rate of $2.00;
per day for each 14-& ariodt be issued. Motion carried by poll
as follows:

It was also agreed that Mrs... Helen Baxter be put;on at the playground
againg during the summer vacation, or some one in her place, if she
cannot take the position.
The following bills were submitted for approval and payment
City of 'NTiami 50.000,Police radio for May.
Fla.Power & Light Co. 20 .2 ,'street lights, May
Totaling, 257.29 payable, out of GENERAL FUND
Councilman Bostwickq seconded by Councilman 'Brotiwnt moved that the
bills be paid as read,. Motion carried by pollo as follows:

There being no further business, the meeting'was; adjourned in regular
order.
