E �� The meeting was called to or�3er by Pres. Vanderboegh with Ivayor Glass and all members of the Council present. Pres. Vanderboegh read the notice for the meeting which had been called for the purpose of taking 'action on the appointment of special police. Mayor Glass explained that at a defense meeting he had attended the pre- vious day it was advised that necessary air raid warden service be put into effect immediately', that the City attorney had advised that the Council pass a motion authorizing the swearing in of 18 special police offfcers,, six of them to be designated as distvi ct air raid Viardens. He also.staied that all names for defense corps work are first submitted to FBI for O:K,, and that the special police to be appointed will come under the direct supervision of our own Chief! of Police and Police Commissioner;; that the rn;dn accepting these appo,ntments will provide their own side arms which they are to carry at all times when away from home and will ride a certain number of .hours each week in the police car as well as receive instruction in certain signals, etc. Present in the Council chamber Land named by the Mayor were the following men, the first six of whom he designated for district warden posts:_ J. Bost yuck., moved that these Wren be sworn in as special police to serve without pay and provide their own arms. Motion carried. Chief Wiegand then addressed the group briefly, ,. outlining the requirements and responsibilities that would he theirs and the proposed method of working out a schedule. Every won named agreed to accept the aplointment, and Mayor Glass adrz;inistered the oath of office to each one, and special police officerls cards were issued to them.
