The meeting was called to order by Pres. Vanderboeghl, with Mayor Glass,
Councilmen Gladden, Bostwickq'Brownt Faust, Core, Bennett and Vanderboegh
and Atty.. H. F. 11lard responding to roll call.

A letter from Geo. 71. Simons, Jr. regarding the City's decision on the
proposed planning, was read. Councilman Bostwick2 secpl ded by Council-
man Bennett, 'moved that Mr. Simons be advised that under the present
budget there was no chance for any action. Motion carried.

Fire. Chairman Brown reported that he had studied the pamphlet of Fire
T evention Regulations of the State Fire Marshall and believed that very
much in the proposed ordinance would be too drastic for a community of
this sizeI some of it unnecessaryg and that it was his belief that it
would require careful and thorough consideration. No action was taken
at this time.
Police. Chairman Bennett stated that Officer Roby had been moved to
University Hospital.
Streets and Parks. Chairman Core discussed "a situation which has arisen
at the Community Building and asked E. L. Thomason to give a report.
Mr. Thompson etated that some people had gotten the idea that they could
use the building at any time without asking for it9 that in the preceding
week there had been four meetings not scheduled, and that there was also
a tendency to leave dirty dishes and thinks generally in a mess. Council-
man Bostwick seconded by Councilman Browns moved that all keys for the
Community Building be called in and kept at the City Clerk's offices that
it be left up to Thompson to let anyone into the building, and that all
organizations using the building are to leave it in the same condition as
they find it in. Motion carried.,
Chairman Core also reported that the County patch wagon and crew are at
work on the City's streets. There was a general discussion concerning the
bad condition of some of the streets, especially those in colored town- „but
that rebuilding them would require a special assessment liens and it was
decided to see what could be done about setting up a special improvement
district for that purpose. The Clerk reported on the failure of the Dorns
to eithe.” sign waivers for the improvements on S. 1st Street affecting
their property or paying up the lien, and it was decided that necessary
action be taken to enforce these liens,

Building Chairman Bostwick again brought UP the question of changing

the City's Cubic content requirement to a square foot requirement, which
had orilinally' been held up +pending similar change in the County's set -up.
tayor Gass stated that that matter was to come up on Thursday at the
County Commission meeting and that the matter was a ain held over. Council-
man Bostwick also reported that the Thornton place Lot 22 Blk 1 McKEEVER
TERRACE) was getting into bad condition. _ _
Mayor Glass reported that he had been contacted by the representative of
an amusement organization ranting a' location for a few days each year and
that the CAMBHIDGE LAYINS tract would fit the requirements admirably, both
as to lation2 size and accessibility, and it was decided to take up with
V.I. [
Atty. G. :.ard, the matter of clearing title
Mayor Glass also discussed the possibility of having a bank in South Miami,
and stated that he had been authorized by the Chamber of Commerce to see
whether he could get somebody to open one, that a dinner was to be held
Monday night at the Community Building under the auspices of the Chamber,
to which all those interested in the establishment of such an institution
were invited as well as representatives of two of the larger Miami banks
and urged all merabers of the Council to be present:

school and that Vilson of the"School Board had assured him that the
matter would be corrected',
Councilman Gladden asked what the status of the proposed motor highway
postoffice wast and Mayor Glass stated that it had been approved but was
a question of getting the necessary trucks and equipment.
