IJ. ,The meeting was called to order by Pres. Vanderboeg i, with I:iayor Glass -_ and C ouncilmen Gladden, Bostvuick,, Faust, Bennett and Va Zderboeghq and Atty. Vlard responding to roll call. Minutes of the regular meeting of August 5 were approved as read. A card of thanks from Iuirs. ;Tiegand, Sr. 0 for flowers, and, a letter. from' the Humane Society acknowledging the City's assistance, were both read. Reports of standing committees Uiere as follows; Finance O.K. Sanitation: C.K. Fire: Absent Pulice: O.K. Streets &- Parks: Vith E. L. Thompson on his vacation, Councilman Bostwick, seconded by Councilman Faustt moved that E. 'Ericson be paid :2.00 per day for two weeks, as substitute, for Kr. Thompson. It.otion carried by poll as follows. ' Gladden yes Bostwick yes Faust yes' Bennett yes Vandernoegh yes Buildings: Chairman BosLwick submitted to the Council an application for a building, permit for a two -story structure having garage and recreational facilities on the ground floor and living quarters on the second floor to be erected in an R -1 zone'. After a thorough discussion, it was decided to place the matter before FHA officials, as the City did not care to jeopardize any future F1l Loans in that area, which is now approved. Mr. E. L. Thompson appeared before the Council to report that everything was going along nicely or the Labor Day celebration, with prizes donated by merchants for the 2 events scheduled, but limes and sugar still e to betaken care oft and that the ball game is to be played with the Hialeah Council. It was decided that the ball players be given a chicken, dinner at:Abie's after the game. At this point Councilman Core joined the meeting. There was nothing new to report on the water deal, Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Faust, moved that Crdinance #132 caption of which follows, be placed on first reading in its entirety. City now not covered, and a discussion in the course of which Atty. ,'lard "advised the City to take this. coverage. Councilman Gladden seconded by Councilman .Faust moved that the City tak6 out a policy for a �5,000 ;$50,000 liability, and $lt000.00 property damage at an approximate cost of $67..00, and get a statement from the ,home office as to the coverage. Ptotion carried. The letter from Y . Geo .. 1,V. Simons, Jr., asking whether the City was inter - ested merely in zoning or a comprehensive plane was read and following a discussion, in which Atty :;'lard also recommended it strongly, the Clerk ilas instructed to write t1r. Simons jthat the Council was interested in a comprehensive plan. Nlayor Glass stated that he had been asked to write a letter to Mayor Reeder Of Miami, endorsing his plan on the gasoline problem, and offer our cooperation. ditty. Vlard brought up the seriousness :of the situation on priority for materials and suggested that Iti?ayor Glass also write the hliam Chamber of Commerce a letter offering our assistance and willingness to cooperate with the committees formed to consider this problem. Council- man.Gladden, seconded by Councilman Faust, moved that the I:Tayor be authorized to write 1!:layor Reeder, endorsing his «asoline plan,, and write the President of the I.liami Chamber of Commerce offering assistance in ' obtaining a change in the priority rulings for building materials for 0 ,mouth Florida. .Motion carried. Mayor Glass; presented a letter written him by a LIr. pickling, asking the City to endorse leis proposed negro housing project north of Djiami. ,No action was taken. In response to a request by Chairman Bennett and Chief ;Uegand for a rulirg Atty.,U'ard stated that he believed the City would lay itself open for suit for false arrest, if an ordinance were passed and enforced, requiring a state driver's license, and that his advice is to lay off until some other municipality makes a test case out of it.
