TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 11 A.D. 1941 AT THE
CITY HALL AT 8:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Vice -Pies. Faust, with,Councilmen Gladdens
;Browne Bostwick,- Corer Bennett and Faust responding to,roll call.
Minutes of the regular meeting of June 3 and of the special meeting of June
24 were respectively read and approved.
Lettiers from Schuyler & Roberts; Frederic Dunn- Rankin; Pentland, Purvis
Keller and Milton- t and, M. S. Lanier who was also present, submitting
proposals for making the City's ,audit reports were carefully read and dis-
cussed. Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Bennett, moved that
Frederic Dunn- Rankin be appointed as auditor, in accordance with the terms
of his letter of June 12. Motion carriedl
A letter from the State Road Dept., requesting City Limits signs wherever,
state roads cross the *, was turned over to the 'Police Department and Streets
` add Parks, for joint action.
_9 letter announcing the course by the Florida State Fire College the latter
part of July at Gainesville, was turned over to Chairman?Brown to check
with Chief 1Nlegand,_as to whether the course he is at present taking at
Miami will not give him similar training. -,

tation:..OK,With Rogers on his vacation, Chairman Faust reported that
E. Meson was serving as substitute, and Councilman Gladden, seconded by
Councilman,Browng, moved that Ericson be paid $2.00 per day for 2 weeks,
payable with the July 15 pay roll. Lotion carried by poll, as follows:

Fire: Chairman ;Brown reported on a house fire in colored town, which was
brought under control before it could spread to adjoining buildings
Police: O.K.
Streets & - Parks: Chairman_Core reported that another cupboard for dishes
had been bu tat the Community Bldgg., that the shuffle board court was in
operationt but that the County's bull dozer was still at Homestead, working
on the airports and could not be expected up here in the near future for
work on the newly acquired park lots.
Buildinrze: Chairman Bostwick called attention tothe new fluorescent lights
installed in the City Halls which met with the approval of all. Inspector
Canington asked what could be done about a building which was erected in
1933 apparently on the lot line, on Lot .14 Blk 3 R0SSV100D and was advised
that after such a lapse of time nothing could be done. Chairman Bostwick
__;discussed with the council quotations lie had received on installation of
an exhaust: fan in the City Hall and it was suggested he get further prices.
Councilman Gladdens as a member of the special eommittee.on watery stated
that no report had as yet been received from Jacksonville on the financing;.
Following a discussion on what would be a fair basis for the settlement
of outstanding taxes on property reverted to the State under the Murphy
Act, Councilman Bostwickt seconded by Councilman Browns moved that Atty.
Ward be instructed to draw up a resolution providing for settlement of City
taxes on all property reverted to the state on a basis of 20% of the 1940'
assessed value, first money to be applied on any taxes less than two years
old, in full with interests the balance adjusted on the remaining certifi-
cates, with cancellation or assignment fees payable at the Circuit Clerk's
office to be collected over and above the 20%. Motion carried.
Councilman Bostwick seconded by Councilman,Bennettq moved that the City
sponsor the Juniorted Cross First aid Class to be started on July 7.
Motion carried.
Councilman Gladdenp seconded by Councilman Bostwicks moved that the Compen-
sation Insurance, which had expired at noon on July It be renewed. Motion
carried.
At this point Mayor Glass joined the meeting.
Councilman Bennett raised the question of the extent of the City's liability
in case of an accident to any volunteer fireman when in training, and the
Clerk was instructed to take this up with the insurance company.
Mayor Glass presented the proclamation he had prepared for July 41' and
"Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Bostwick,, maned that it be adopted
and enforced insofar as possible* Motion carried.
Councilman Bennett brought; up the question of celebrating July 4s and while
it was agreed that it was rather a late date to try to do anything, it was
Left up to him and the local Legion Post to work out a program1 providing
free cold drinks for the children and possibly arranging for some games.
Mayor Glass reported that he had been appointed a member of the Dade County
Zoning Board.
