The meeting was called to order by Fres,. Vanderboegli with Mayor Glass, and
Councilmen Gladden? Bostwick, Faust, Bennett and 'PanderboeLh present. Pres
`°Vanderboegh read the notice for the meeting which had been called forothe
purpose of discussinb Home Defense measures, and any emergency business that
may come before the meeting.
Representing the various orga lizati:ors which are to work i °aith the Council,

Mayor Glass addressed the vathering, stressi7zg the necessity for getting
organized, with the forming of a volunteer fire cbpartment as the first
step. Ile stated that Councilman Bostwick had been appointed as chairman
for South Miami, fo - Civilian Defense. Be discussed the formation of first
aid aid classes by the`ged Cross, and the proposed voluntary registration of all
civilians. There was also a discussion on bombproof shelters.
With Chairman Brovin of the Fire Department seriously ill, Councilman
Bostwick, seconded by Councilrraan Gladden, moved that Councilman Bennett
and E'. L. Thompson be appointed as assistant chairmen to act for him it
the 'orgaiizing of a volunteer fire departmant, in accordance with the
Civilian Defense plans.
