The meeting was called to order by Pres. Vanderboegh with Councilmen
Gladden, Brown: Bennett, Vanderboegh and Bostwick present.
Minutes of the special meeting of April 8'were approved as read,
County Commissioner Paxson was present and.staged that the closing o-f the
,`IPA sewing room would not cause the County Commission any embarrassment,
nor the WPA officials.., although he hated to see the City take the action:
unless it was necessary.
Councilman'Gladden, seconded by Councilman Bostwick, moved that a letter
be written;, the VIPA officials, advising them that the sewing room will have
to be discontinued on I•.Iay 5 unless other arrangerr_ents can be made. Motion
carried.
Pr. D. N. Miller came before the Council with a' request for the adjustment
of back taxes. Councilman Brown stated that he was not in,favor of taking,
any action on this without the City Attorney's advice and.,made a motion,
seconded by :Councilman Gladden, that the request be held over until the
City Attorney could be consulted. Motion carried.
A letter from Dr. Lloyd C. Shanklin regarding the making of colored moving,
pictures of the City, at a cost of 500 per foot of film was read, and upon
motion of Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Bemiettq tabled until
some future date. Wotion carried.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:
Finance : O.K.
Sanitation:. Absent
Fire: Everything O.K. in spite of about 14 brush fires.
Police: O.K. Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Bostwick, moved
that the appointment of W. A. Cooper be made permanent, at the regular
salary of $1Q0.00 per month: and that Mrs. Della'Wiegand be employed at
the rate of $2.00 per day, payable upon completion of the works for cleri-
cal services in connection with car inspections. A%tion carried by poll,

Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman.. Bostwicli moved that remaining
dredits of the Par Properties, Inc. be applied on the 1940 City taxes on
Dorn Properties, upon written consent of Par Properties, Inc. T;otion
carried.
The Clerk reported that liability limits on the fire truck had been in -
creased to 10/201000 at an additional premium of $2.50 for the balance of
the insurance year;.

In the matter of the proposed purchase of a new 1941 Ford sedan for the
police depaptntent, Chairman Bennett reported that with the deduction of
the federal tax, there was still a difference of $45.46 between the two
bids, but recommended that the bid of Huskamp Ttlotor Co. be accepted be-
cause of the nearness for service and consideration shown in the past,.
Councilman Gladden$ secLnded by Councilman Bostwick, moved that the City
purchase the new police car, from Huskamp Yotor Co., and that Resolution
#207 be read. Motion carried.

passed a motion to purchase a new police car and ash for bids, and "'
VMREAS, bids from two different concerns vrere submitted on
April 8, 1941, and
WHEREAS, considering all matters concerning the bid and considering
the availability of service', Huskamp ;Mlotor Company have provided the most
favorable bid,

That said bid of Huskamp Motor Company be accepted and that the Mayor
and City Clerk be, and they are, hereby authorized to execute a. contract
with said Huskamp Iv;otor Company for the purchase of anew 1941 85 H.P.
V -8 Ford Fordor De Luxe Sedan, as per bid attached, for the total price
of Nine Hundred Twenty Eight and 75 /100 ($928.75) Dollarsx payable as
followls:

Councilman Brown,, seconded by Councilman Gladdens moved that the bills be
paid as read. Motion carried by pol22 as follows:

Councilman Brown reported that he had received two or three complaints
from the P.T.A. regarding the speeding of the South Miami Coach Line bus+
past the school and also their backing around into Sunset Drive. Council-
man Bennett agreed to take it up with Chief Wiegand and if necessary have the
Coral Gables police take it up with the Coach Line, as the school is within
their.jurisdiction. Pres. Vanderboegh suggested that it might; be possible
to have the school board assign a special school patrol man there similar
to those at other schools., .Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman
Bostwick, moved that the City have signs made and presented to the school
with the understanding that they put them out and take them in. Motion carried.
Pres., Vanderboegh stated that he had been approached by Carl Gluck on be-
half of the Legion Post'l which wants to hold some Americanism meetings
and wanted to know whether the City would donate the hall2 once a month,
for that purpose. Councilman Bennettsuggested' that the Legion have that
on their own meeting nighto having a short business meeting just before.
It was decided that they work out some sort of a program and then come
before the Council.
Pres. Vanderboegh reported briefly on the recent,defense confer ce held
at blest Palm Beach, stating that all districts had been lined uthe
state and the local department was still to be organized.
There being no' further businessq, the meeting was adjourned in regular
order at approximately 10:10 PA.
