The meeting was called to order by President Vanderboegh with Mayor Glass
Councilmen Parrish, Co re, Bennett, and Vanderboegh and Attorney H. F. Ward -

Minutes of the regular meeting of Feb. 4 and the Special meeting of Feb. 12
were respectively read and approved.
Constance Scherr, accompanied by Betty Foyle and Irene Beaver, appeared
before the Council with a plea from the young people of the South Miami
area for "a place to go to" with a tentative plan for weekly Friday night
dances properly chaperoned, with possibly one dance a month open to the
public for admission;, to meet their expenses. It was agreed that if
properly sponsored and supervised such meetings would provide wholesome
recreation for the young people and the Committee was instructed to get
them better organized and come back with more definite plans.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:
Finance Absent
a Sanitary. Councilman Parrish reported that treatment of refuse at the pit
with distillate to insure its thorough burning had been started and already
good results were apparent in the lessening of flies.
Following a lengthy talk regarding health cards which are required not only
by City ordinance but State law it was definitely decided that all persons
whose employment requires them must obtain them whethz:.r or not they are
taking treatment. With 14 positive cases out of a total of 68 cards the
Fre: importance of this cannot be too strongly stressed.
�ui!O*ce: Chairman Bennett presented the resignation of Officer Parker,
effective March 1, with the motion, seconded by Councilman Core, that it be
accepted. Notion carried.
Streets & Parks: Chairman Core reported that the County Patch Wagon was
working on the City Streets and that bad holes on otherst including streets
in colored town, had been filled up with rock, graded and rolled. The
question of fixing the street alongside the Post Office had again been
raised and Omar Stang had given a check for $50.00 toward. having this
rocked and oiled - -the City to make up the balance. This met with the
approval of all present. Councilman. Core also staged that the property
owners on South First Street from the Highway to South Second Avenue
had asked that this stretch be improved with an oiled road and asked that
the necessary steps towards advertising be taken:

Councilman Bennettq seconded by Councilman Parrishs moved that the City
refund to South Viami Fairs and Expositions, Incorl,orated the $114.00 when
the check deposited on February 13 has cleared. Motion carried by poll
as follows:

A letter from Horsley Insurance Agency was read? advising that an additional`,
ps'Mium of x+37.00 to June 15 would be required of the City School Bus were
to be used for hauling Sunday School children. Counuilmett Parrish$ Corey

and Bennett expressed themselves as definitely against the City - undertaking
this.. President Vanderboegh reported that he had carried the children for
2 Sundays and only enough for l car had come. Following a thorough discus
sion, 'Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Core, moved that a letter
,+written the Church authorities explaining the circumstances and the
impossibility of doing this. Motion carried.
The matter of the rock pit on the Blumenthal property was thoroughly dis-
cussed and it was pointed out.that while they were taking out about 4
feet of rock, there is still enough rill left to leave the property,at
street level, and that if they go farther down A. W. Kneibler, as property
owner in the vicinity, is to take -out an injunction rather than have action
brought in the name of the City, according to the advice of the City
attorneys.
Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman "Core., moved that the Clerk be
sent to the State Finance Officers meeting at Gainesville with expenses
to be advanced. Ylotion carried.

Councilman Parrishs seconded by Councilman Core, moved the bills be paid
