Kinutes of the regular meeting of November 4 were approved as read.
Regular order of business was suspended to enable I'layor Glass to present
• representative of the forthcomitag GrangecDowl.Parade, who in turn showed
• color moving picture film of last year's parade. Following a discussion j
in which Ur. Fuchs and P-1r. E. L. Sauls, respectively president and :secre-
tary of the South Miami District Chamber of Commerce, took part, it was
decided to hold: a special meeting on Nov. 26 with a coi- mittee from the
Chamber of Commerce to see what could be worked out so that South iVliami
could have a float this ,year.. The following amounts were pledged at this
time Atty. '�Jard, ""ihe last $25.00 neededt" CeuncilmeLn. Gladden, Brown,
and Vanderboe h, $10.00 each, Clerk i+taartin 4'5.00, E. L. Saul's, for Bryant's
Corner, $20.00, making a total of $90.00. Prior to the special meeting,
officers of the Chamber of Commerce were to call on other business houses
for financial contributions. The total amount needed will be $225.00 or
X250.00, depending upon the -Float chosen.
Mayor Glass also reported on the broadcast; over '.'JKAT on )tloii. evening,
November 18 which was a salute to South Miami and to which telegrams of
congratulation on the stat'ion's new wave length. and increased power had
been sent by practically all business houses in South L- liami.
An application, 'both in writing and oral, of Geo. Sumner, for adjustment
of back taxes on 3 tracts in BIM ROAD TE " ACE- , on the basis of $12.50
per acres was submitted, asking for an assignment of certificates only in
the amount paid and agreeing to assume the cost of cance'?lin, out all other
outstanding City Certificates:.. Foilowii-13 ,a discussion, in which Atty. Ward
advised that the City had a right to make any settlement it wishes on taxes
more than two years in arrears but that full amount plus interest must be
collected on anything, less than two years in arrears,, Councilman Browne
seconded by Councilman Gladden, moved that the City accept $150.30 plus
$13,.65 cancellation fees, in full settlement of outstanding tastes on Tracts

1926 throu��h 193 5, assigning the 1936 certificates with all omitted sub -
sequent years up to and including: 1940, with consideration for 1936 and

lowing a, discussion Councilman Bennett, seconded by Coilman Gladden,
moved that 11r. ,Remoldi be given permission to erect his marker. Motion
carried. _
Building Inspector C'anington reported on the unsatisfactory condition of
some of the plumbing installed at Bryant''s Corner, on which Manning was
the contractor, and for only a part of which permits had.been taken out
and inspections ` made;. Atty. Ward stated that the City has no responsibil-
ity in the matter, that it is up to the, owner and the contractor to come to
an adjustment and that the State hotel Commission would require prompt cor-
rection of conditions and possibly revoke the plumber's license. Inspector
Canington was instructed to report back to Mr. Bryant.
Application, of David Jenkins for a 6-mo. beer license at '517 N., 2nd Rd.
was presented and Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Core, moved
he be Granted a six- months' license for X10.00 ?Nation earl'ied.
Examination of the tax records having revealed" a duplication in assessment
from 1927 to 1935, whereby a, piece of 'Land described as Dart of Vl•, of Mj;
of SL,-!- of my -,i-2 lying N. of R /V19 Sec. 3u -54 -40 and redeemed as such, had
also been listed as Unnumbered" lot lying 6. of FhC H /W F,kj P;;IA I' HEIGHTS
and on which tax certificates were still outstanding and in the City's
files, Councilman Gladden; seconded by Councilman Brown, moved that. the
eight certificates, covering the tax, years 1927 through 1935, excluding
1932 when no taxes were levied, on the Um- nunbered lot lying W. of FEC R /+V
PAU I1I1AMI IMIGHTS, be cancelled because of duplication. Motion carried
by poll, as follows:

Iolice: Chairman Bennett reported that slot machines were again being
placed about in the county, in spite of the fact that they have not been
legalized and wanted the Council's opinion on the matter, and it was gen-
erally decided that they were not wanted within the City.
Streets & Parks: Chairman Core reported the completion of the street
patching.

S ec�.il Committees: lv1ayor Glass reported that the South Miami. District
Chamber Of Commerce was taking ul] the question of water for the City,
especially from the angle of fire protection and autc,matic sprinkler
systems, which in the case of the Hokum Bakery alone would mean a reduction
from the present X5200.00 insurance premium to ,P"800.00 with such an
installation. Councilman Gladden Added that he had also been given en- "
courager..ent on the possibility of financing a system when the City is
ready to consider the E,atter.
Councilman Brown presented a request from A. C. Cormack, c/o Miami dousing
Bureau. L:iamiq for permit for a rock I it on the rear of the Blumenthal
tracts :lescribed as BL of ELF of NLN!' of TT,l °, Sec. 24- 54 -40. As this property
is zoned for residential useq Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman
Gladden„ moved that 'the request be rejected.. T"otion carried
' Pres. Vanderboegh reported that the American Legion Post had staged a
benefit dance for the Crippled Children's hospital at the Community Bldg.,
and j ,,aid the usual $5.00 fee for use of the building, and that the Chamber
of Commerce was asking the free use of the building for the night of its
chicken dinner 'get -to- gether on the argument that it was a community affair.
Councilman Browns seconded by Councilman Gladden, moved that the City
issue a check for $5.00 to the South Florida Crippled Children's Hospital
Wad that the Chamber of Commerce be ,granted the use of the building without
char--e for the ,night of its dinner (Oct. 28) :M=otion carried.
Mayor Glass reported that at tie request of Local Draft Board 7, he had
appointed a local advisory board consisting of the 'City Clerko Chief
TiViegand and Officer J oby, to assist in filling out of questionnairs for
selective service and the administering of oaths to the men signing them.
