The meeting was called to order by Pres. Vanderboe h, with members
of the Council sitting as an equalization board. Tile 1940 assessment
roll, both real and porsonal was presented ;for the Board's inspection.
fThile the roll of real property 'totaled $7439415.001 it was divided
as f o llowis
Total ,assessed value `'under' certificate $1019400 <..00
Total assessed value reverted to the
State of Florida under I!i.uruhy Act 249270.00
Total assessed value open for levy 617,745.00
a
Under the Murphy Act, lands reverted to the State of Florida, will not
be subject to levy for 1940 and on property under certificate to the
City, any payment for 1940 would come under the anticipation for de-
liiiquent taxes, leaving orily the total assessed value of property open
for 'levy from which taxes can be realized., With applications for
Homestead Exemption totaling $2379385.00 on hand,, this will leave' only
a net roll of $380,360..00 on vahich to levy. However, under a recent
ruling of the Attorney General, limiting Flomestead Exemption to the
building in which owner resides, provided other buildings are used for
rental purposes, it will be necessary to re- check all applications,
- which will r turn to the roll at least; a small portion of 'the property
w Wool exempt.
The Personal moll totaled $26,825.00, to which the assessed values for
the Florida East Coast railway, and the Fruit Growers'` Express are still
to be added, when received from the State Comptroller's office.
There being no visitors or written objections, the meeting; was ad-
journed in regular order at 9:00 PZI.
