The council was called to order by the President, there being present; Pres-
ident Lindley, and councilmen, Red, Smith, Burtashar and Shelley.
The clerk then read the minutes of the regular meeting hold 5/3/32, and the
adjourned meeting held 5/6/32, and the adjourned meeting held 5/9/329 vih&ch minutes
were approved as read.
Councilman Shelley then made a motion which was seconded by councilman Burta-
shaw, that Ordinance.No. _54 , be given its third and final reading. This motion carried
whereupon President Lindley read Ordinance No. 54 ,he caption of whic; in its emended
form is as follows;
Ordinance No. 54
An Ordinance to amend �.n act entitled "An ordinance providing for the enforce-
ment of the collection of the delinquent general city taxes acid for advertising and
selling lands for the non- payment of such taxes pursuant to direction, power and author
ity, given conferred and bestowed by section 38 of chapter 13425 of the special acts of
the Legislatdre for the year 192711 and acts amendatory thereof raid. supplementary thereto.
Mr. Rea then made moyion which was seconded by Xr. Burtashaw, that Ordinance No.
54, be adopted as read. This motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Red then presented to the council. the report of the committee which
was appointed at a previous meeting to engage r,r. John C. Sullivan to defend the City
in the pending tax suit —tr Red stated that Attorney Sullivan had agreed to defend the
City in this suit 'for a fee of fifty dollars plus costs of the suit.
Councilman Shelley then presented and read Ordinance No. 556 for its first read
Ing the caption of which ordinance is as follows;
Ordinance No. 55
An ordinance declaring that the council of the city of South liiami, Florida,
der the laws of the state of Florida, desires to contract the
territorial limits of said City; as they now exist, defining the territory sought to be
excluded from the present,CLty limits, and providing for the submission of this ordinance
to a vote of the registeredlof said City for approval or disapproval.,
Upon motion of councilman Red seconded by councilman Burtashsw, which motion was
unanimous ordinance No. 55 was read by caption only for its second reading.
Councilman Red then presented and read for its first reading, ordinance No. 56
The caption of ordinance No. 56 is as follows;
Ordinance No. i56
An ordinance providing for the collection of the city tames levied by the city of
South Miami fOr the year 1931.
Upon motion od councilman Shelley seconded by councilman Burtashaw, which motion
carried unanimously ordinance No. 56 was given its second reading by caption only.
The president then read a petition from LIr. S. C. Iiuling, relative to drivers
licenses in this City. The Clerk was instructed to get a report on the ordinance of the
City of, °hiamit,this question and report at the next regular meeting.
Councilm an Red then made a motion which was seconded by councilman Smith that the
time limit for the payment of delinquent city taxes by property owners only for the
years 1926, 279 ^8,, and 29, at a reduction o•' sixty- six and two thirds per cent, be
extended to September 1st, 1932, on condition that the 1930 and 1931 city taxes are
paid at the same time. ^his motion carried unanimously.

An ordinance amendatory of Ordinance No. 2 same being an ordinance entitled"" An P
Ordinance providing for and regulating the registration of all persons firms and corpo-
rations engaged in a business profession or occupation in the Town of South Miami, fix-
ing the license taxes for the year be.-inningL April lot, 1926, and for each succeeding
year until repealed; regulating and restricting licenses applied for, after April lot, "
of every year; providing terms under which such licenses may be obtained; regulating
the carrying on of business under such license; and providing a penalty for the viola-
tion of the ordinance.
Councilman Burtashaw then made motion Which was seconded by councilman 'Smith
