1931-06-30 MINUTES CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED MTGMinutes of adjourned meeting of City Council held at City Hall South Miami
June 30, 1931, at i8 P. M.
Present were R. J. Lindley, president of the council, and councilmen,,,_6ngerman Smith,
Houser, Red, and Shelley.
The meeting was called to order by the President, after which the committee appoin-
ted at the preceding meeting, to confer with;Mr Schmacher in regard to a reduction in the
price of advertising delinquent taxes, reported that Mr Schmacker had tentatively, agreed
to print the advertising, -using single column where possible instead of double column, -
and he would, submit his final proposal in writing at the next regular meeting.
After some discussion, the council upon motion duly made and seconded, agreed to

hold the delinquent tax sale on the first lawful sale day in September. Motion carried.
Councilman Red thereupon made motion, which was seconded by councilmen Smith,
that the City of South Miami, hold an election on August 10th, 1931, to'determine'whether
or not the City should surrender its Charter in accordance with House 'Bill # 136-s
passed at special session of the 1931 Legislature. Motion carried.
Councilmen Red then made motion seconded by councilman Smith, that the following
rules and regulations governing the said election be adopted; to wit,
That the Clerk be instructed to prepare ballots, and booths, In readiness,for the
,
election,
That the form of the ballot shall be,
For the City Charter
Against the City Charter
That the books be opened for registration immediately, and kept open , thereafter
up to and including August lot, 1931.
That payment of poll taxes up to and imcluding,August 1st9 1931, qualifies the
voter to vote in this special election insofar as poll taxes are concerned.
This motion carried unanimously.
