1927-01-04 MINUTES TOWN COUNCIL MTGr i„ January 4th, 1927. i i 11inutes of a Regular 1�Feeting of the Town Council of the Town of South Miami, F'a., held Tuesday evening, Jan. 4th, 1927, 3 at 8:00 P. A4. in the Town Mall on Sunset Road, The meeting was calle i to order by the President of the Council, J. L. Paxson. f, The Clem{ called the roll and the following mentioned alder- men answered to roll. °call; J. L'."Paxson,- Jno,' I',yers, J.,, 1N. Batts, J. B. Janes, N. G. Stang, R. 1 ITartin and H W. Dorn. The Clerk then read the minutes of the Regular meeting held' ° December 21st, 1926, and they were appr -.ved as read. The President of t; e Council then called on the various committeemen for their reports. -A Alderman R. 1. Martin Committeeman on Health and Sanitation reported that 'work was being done to improve the sanitary condi- tion of the , town srd aske 3 fir. G. B. Reed, State Sanitary Inspec- tor to -ive the council a report from the..State Sanitary: Board regarding the pit -)rivy situation being unsafe and undesirab ":e, to be used in this -Locality. Mr. 'Reed also too:c up the question ,. of having a large septic tank installed to taxe care of t:.e toilet " sit..ation. The council requested Alderman I „artin to world with Isir. Reed in mating some arrangement for coping• with the situation. Alderman J. B. Janes, .Committeeman on Fires: reported that the Volunteer 'Fire Dept, was required to do considerable work in combatting vrith the grass fires and asked that rubber coats be furnished for the orotec,tion of the mens' clothes. Alderman J. N. Barrs moved that nine rubber coats be par- chased for the use f the department. Xotion was seconded by' Alderman J. B. Janes and when nut to vote was, carried, all votes being in the affirmative. Alderman H. 71. Dorn brou+.;ht up the question of water suouly for the town and the information was brought out that the Consumers Mater Co. Via§ not in' pos -tion at the present time to offt,r any nro position for suD)lying the town with water. The question of railroad crossing on Sunset was brought up by Kr. Dorn, but no action was tarien oy the counc,i' . Alderman 71 G. Stang brought un the question of ra,zid twins it to South I, € €iami, FIa. , and 11r. Mr. Root. Dorn read a letter from the Coral Gables Transportation Go. and r €.ported the worx being done oy the So.Lth Miami Dist. Chamber of Commerce. A motion was made o.,, Alderman 71. G. Stang that South Miami Dist. Chamber of Commerce mace a counter -pry position to the Coral Gable Transportation Co. for the nur*)ose of getting the best vossible ter,r,s for the extension of rapid transit line to the center of town, ands report to the Town Council at the next regular m = :etinp. The question of condemned buildings was brought uu by Lr. Barrs and Alderman J. 3. Janes made a motion that the Town - arsha7l serve not.ce on owners who had failed to comply with ),gilding code and .-et a Letter from them authorik,i.ng disposit -on of the bui? A motion was made "by Alderman J. W. Barns that the Mayor be sent to St. Augustine, Fla, to to e -,u-o the matter of the con- struction of a new sta'tioh at Sout'n Miami,, with 14s. `Roden'oaug and the e-�ense of the trip be assumed b,y the town. Motion was seconded by Alderman R. . Martin and when voted" on was carried,, all votes being in the affirmative. It was suggested that the Mayor call on Mr. 71alton, Su-t. J of this district before going wo St. Augustine. (, ` A complaint was made'by Dr. 71. B. ti -elley, that a building was being constructed in the rear -)f his pr -ooerty w' ich would depreciate "the value of his lace. A motion was made by R.--u. ,'T,_artin that a committee be apboint- ed to go into the matter and ascertain what the situation was and report back to the council,. Motion was seconded by A7 derman J. B. Janes and upon being gut to vote was carried all votes being �rAyeir. The (Rresident the Coune 1, J Paxson, of ,. appointed the following mentioned on the comrn4ttee: l¢ nr. Dorn, no. rrlyers and J. 71. Barrs'. 'The Clerk was then asked to read a letter from the South ' i[iaml Dist. Chamber of Commerce with reference to the conduct of Marshal Fleming, ne3, and officer J. W. Ko,on. A motion was made oy H. IN. Dorn that '1arshall F" e.ming and Officer Koon be susoe;nded for two weeps without pay. There being no second to the motion it did not go .to vote.- A5 motion was made by Alderman John 'Myers that the communica- tion he -)laced on the table and no action be ta_ <en to reprimand the Ti.tarshall or police officer. ` - YOtion was seconded by Alderman J. 71. Barrs and vote on motion was taken by poll and resu?ted as follows: Yes:- J. B. Janes, J. W.- Barrs;, Jno. Myers, R., L. Kart'n and 'N. G. Stang; Edo : - Ii.: "/. Dorn. There being five affirmative and one negative vote the motion was carried. A motion wa .- made' by J. B. Janes that Town Clerti, Geo. Airey, be designated as custodian to 'nave charge of and hold all keys for the town hall locker. :,got on was seconded- jy J. ;l. ' ?arrs and upon being put to vote wa carried, all votes being "Aye". A motion was made by J. W. Barrs that Mayor W. A. Foster be paid a salary of X100.00 rer month and that he be required to devote some additional time to the ma..nagemer�t of the affairs of the tjwn. Motion was seconded by Alderman- R. L. Mart-'.n ar�d upon being -t to vote vias carried, a "l votes being in the affirmative. There being no further business-to come before the,.00ard a motion wa: made by Jno.
