1926-07-20 MINUTES TOWN COUNCIL MTG; July' .20th, 1926. Minutes of the regular meeting of the Town Council of the Tovm of South Miami, Florida held Tuesday evening July 20th, 1926 at 8 P. M. in the town hall on Sunset, -Road. fy Meeting was called? order by the President of the Counc, J.L.Paason. The Clerk then called the roll, the following mentioned Aldermen ans- wered to the roll call; J.L,.Paxsoo, J.B.Janes, J.T.Barrs, R.L.Martii,W.G Stan and H W Dorn. Stang, reported that roadway east of Brooks building had been cleared up and that the police department would make an effort to keep it clean. The .question of permitting shacks to be moved into South Miami from Coral Gables was brought up by;Alderman Barrs. The `Motion was made by Alderman H. W. Dorn and seconded by Alderman J. W. Barre that a sommittee be appointed to work with the South Miami 'District Chamber of Commerce in, drawing up a zoning Ordinance which 'would regulate the moving of undesira- ble buildings into any part of South Miami. The motion was put to vote and carried, all votes being in the affirmative. Mr. Paxson agreed to act as Chairman of a committee which he would appoint. Alderman J V1. Barra made complaint of the undesirable condition caused by smoke and steam from the pressing plant in the rear of the building at the Northwest Corner of Dorn Street acid Sunset Road. A motion was made by Alderman R. L. Martin "and seconded by Alderman J. B. Janes that a committee of one be appointed Ito worts out some 'remedy. Motion was voted on and car- riedgall votes being in the affirmative. Alderman Janes was appointed by President Paxson to take care or the undesirable conditions Alderman J B. Janes brought up the question of having a plumbing In- speoter appointed for the town of South Miami and after a discussion of the question by the members present, Alderman J. B. Janes made a motion that a plumbing Inspector be.appointede Motion was seconded by Alderman Martin, and upon being put to vote, was carried, all votes being "AYE ". President Paxson appointed Mr. Barre 'as a committee of one to inter - view J. W. Frost regarding the acceptance of the position as plumbing In- Spector. Alderman J. W. Barrs made a motion that a Sanitary Inspeotor be appoint- ed for the town of South Miami. Motion was seconded by Alderman J.B.Janes, and upon being put to vote was carried, all votes being in the affirmative, The Question og adding an additional, policeman to the South Miami De- partment and arranging,' for an eight hour shift for each of the three officers was brought up by the Police Committeeman, W.G.Stang, and after a general .-0 discussion of the question by all members of the council, Alderman Stang was authorized to make arrangements to tryout the plan, suggested by him, for a period of two weeks and report the results to the board at the next meeting. n n r. The question of working out some plan to dispose of the water which accumulates in front of the Paxson Building and around the Bank and Drug Store 'building after each heavy rain, was brought before the board by Town t2gineer Brundage, and after a discussion of the question by the members of the board, a motion was made by H. W. Dorn and seconded by R. L,Martin that Engineer Brundage be ,ordered to have constructed a leaching basin at each of these points, the cost of the two to be approximately one hundred dollars. Motion was put to vote and carried, all votes being "AYE" The question of a parking Ordinance was again brought before the board and the committee which was appointed sometime ago to formulate an ordi- nanee was requested b q y the president J.Z. Paxson to continue their work on the matter and report results at the next meeting of the council. Alderman J. B. Janes, 'Committeeman on fire reporteds proposition had been made by Mr. Manship to furnish shelter for the chemical Fire Engine at a cost of $8.00 per month. There being no further business to come before the board, a motion was made by Alderman Martin to adjourn to the next regular meeting, Tuesday evening August 3rd, at 8.P.,Aei.
