Minutes of a special meeting of the town council of th e town of
South Miami held 1n the town halm on Sunset Road Tuesday v
y e 'ening June.
29th 1926 at 8 P. M. persuant to the adjournment of June 22nd 1926.
The meeting was called to order by President Paxson. "

The then read the minutes of the special meeting held June
22nd, 1926 and they were approved as read.
Alderman Janes, Committeeman on Fires was called on for report re-
garding the Organization of a volunteer Fire Department. Motion was
made by Alderman Janes and seconded by Alderman R. L. Martin that the
McWor be authorized to appoint and swear in Mr. A. B. White as -Chief-
of of the Volunteer Department with police power while on duty at fires,

and to have supervision of the care of the chemical engines. Motion
was put to vote and carried, all votes being in the affirmative.
Alderman Stang reported that Chief of Coral Gables Fire Depart-
ment offired his assistance in helping South Miami to organize a Vol -
unteer Fire Department.
Alderman Stang reported that a Mr'. Hollingsworth had established
bus service between South Miami and the Coral Gables Interurban Line,
Mr. Hollingsworth reported that he was operating at a loss, but that
% he would continue for some time with the exp,eotation that business
would get better.
Alderman W. G. Stan made a motion that printing be ordered at
approximate ten dollars 610.00) in coat be paid for the Town of South
Miami to advertise the bus sefvioe. Irotion was seconded by J. We Barra =
and upon bel ng put to vote was carried, all votes being in tbe,,1affirma-

Chairman Paxson appointed Alderman Stang as a committee of one to
arrange to have pronting done.
Alderman J. We Barra reported complaint had been made regarding
the moving of the Leasoh Building to Ross Avenue and Kathrine Street.
Attorney Sullivan advised that owner be, notified to put building in
satisfactory condition, and not to have it used for any purpose undesir-
able or steps would be taken to declare it a nuisance.' President Paxson
requested Alderman Horn to call on Leasch and state the situation'.
Alderman W. G. Stang, Committeeman on Police reported an inspection
of Coral Gables Jail and stated he would get prices from Martin Iron
Works for construction of cells.
Alderman Stang reported that question of furnishing special police
at Tahiti(,16&oh for July 3rd, 4th and 5th had been taken up with Chief
of Coral Gables Police 'Department after a discussion of the question by
the Town Council it was decided that the entire matter be 'left in the
hands of the Committeeman on Police.
Alderman Barre reported that complaint had been tiled regarding the
use of profane language by the police also stated the traffic sign had
not been placed on Dorn Street.
Motion was made by He Y1. Dorn and seconded by J. Vi. Barre that the
I resolution be adopted by the Town Council..
"Resolved that on complaint made by any person, any Officer of
the town of South Miami, Florida, who uses profane, obscene or
indecent 'language while on duty for the town, shall, upon con-
viction be suspended from duty without pay doe any period in the
discretion of the town Council.

Motion was put to vote and carried, all votes being in the iaffirma-
tive.
a X motion was made by W. G. Stang, and seconded by H. W. Dorn that
Clerk be instructed to order light Posts on Sunset Road reset and repaired.
Motion was voted on and carried, all votes being "AYE ".
The question of building sidewalks and having other improvements made
in South Miami, came up for obnsideration by the board of Aldermen and
Attorney Sullivan presented a resolution covering a system of walks to be
built in South Miami, and the Clerk was then instructed to ;read the reso-
lution which read as follows;
A RESOLUTION FOR GRADING,LEVELING,LAYING AND
PAVI1fG OF SIDE WALKS IN THE TOWN' OF SOUTH MIAbtI,
FLORIDA,DESIGNATED AS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 2;
AND PROVIDING FOR SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS FOR SAID IMi'
PROVENENT.
Be it resolved,by the Council of the town of South Miami, Florida;;
That a standard ten (10) foot concrete side walk be graded, leveled
and paved on both sides of Sunset Road from the West dide of Red Road, to
the East side of W. Ingraham Highway, also an the South side of Sunset
Road commencing at a point opposite the East line of Ross Ave nue >, and:ex-
tending one hundred ten (110,) feet east to connect with walk now construct
ad. That a standard eight (0) foot side walk be graded, leveled and paved-
on the South, side of Sunset Road also on both sides of Dorn Street from
the North side of Sunset Road t,, the South side of Hinson Street, also on
both sides of Sunset Road from Ross Avenue to a point one hundred thirty
rive (135) feet West of the West side of East End Avenue, t6gether with
all interseetion corners.

That all the oost of the said improvement be paid by special assess-
ment, and shall be levied upon the land described as follows;
Ail lots and lands adjoining and contiguous or bounding, and
abutting upon any of such improvement.

The special assessments levied on the above described property for
said improvement shall be paid in ten (10) equal yearly installments with
Interest at the rate of six (6) per cent per annum, payable annually.

That no part of the cost for making paid improvement shall be paid from
"- general improvement fund of the Town c±i' South 11 ami, Florida.

That the total estimated cost of said improvement is sixteen thousand
Dollars (016,000,00)

After a general discussion of the matter e. motinn was made by Alder
F7 man R. L. Martin and seconded by Alderman W. G. Stang that resolution be
adopted as read. Motion was voted on by poll and the,folloing mentioned
Aldermen voted Aye, J. B. Janes, F. L. Martin, W. G. Stang 'and Harold W.
Dorn, Alderman J. W. Barrs irotedr No. The result of the poll,.vote being
four votc)s in the affirmative and one " NO", No , the motion was carried. The
President of the Board declared the Resolution adopted and stated he ap-
proved the result of the vote. The Clerk was then requested to read s
resolution presented by Attorney Sullivan, eovering a system of improve-
ments to be made in Cambridge Lawns Subdivision. The ,resolution read as
follows:

Providing for Special Assessments for Said Improvement.
Be it resolved by the ,Council of the Town of South Miami, "Florida:
That the streets, avenues, drives, boulevards, and roadways -to wit;
Yale Drive; Prinoeton Boulevard, the West half of Auburn Street from
. the interseotion with Hardee Road to the northeast corner of the south-
east quarter of the South east quarter' of the North west quarter' of Sec-
tion 25, Township 54 South, Range 40 East, and the East half of said
Auburn Street from said northeast corner ee the point where Auburn Street
and Cornell Avenue intersect, and then all of said Auburn Street to the
center of Miller Road, Stetson Avenue, Tulane Avenue, Columbia Avenue,
Vanderbilt Avenue, Cornell Avenue, Mercer Avenue, Clemson Avenue, Sareovd
Avenue,; and the north ;half of Hardee Road from the southwest corner of the
east half of the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of the north
west quarter of said Section 25 t+ the center of said Section 25, and the
south half of Miller Road from the northwest corner of the east half of
the northwest quarter of the northeast quarter of the northwest quarter
of Section 25, Township 54, South, Range 40 East, to a point 336 and
94 -100 feet east of the N. E of the N.W.J of said Section No. 25 in
Cambridge Lawns, a subdivision located in the town of South Miami, Dade "
County, Florida be constructed and-hard surfaced with rook and oil.

And that a standard five (5) foot conorete sidewalk be graded, leveled
and paved on both sides of said streets, drives, avenues, boulevards, and
roadways in Cambridge Lawns.

That all of the cost of the said improvement be paid by special assess-
ments,`and shall be levied upon the land, described as follows,- All lots
and lands adjoining and contiguous or 'bounding and abutting upon such im-
provement.
