1926-06-22 MINUTES BD OF ALDERMEN SPECIAL MTG0 f } 0 June 22nd, 1926. Minutes of a special meeting of the Board of Alderman of the Torun of 9 South Miami held in, 'the town hall Tuesday evening June 22nd, 1926 at 8 P.M. persuant to the adfqurnment of the meeting of June 15th. Meeting was calked to order by President Paxsori. The clerk then oalled the roll, the following mentioned Aldermen being present. J. Z. Paxson, = J. B Janes, R. L. Martin, W. G. Stang and H. W. Dorn. Aldermen Myers ,and J. W. :Barre were`(absent The Clerk then read the minutes or the meeting held June 15th, 1926, and they re approved as read President Paxson called for a report from the various committeemen. Alderman Martin, Committeeman on Health and sanitation reported the necessity of-,,,,having garbage removed. 0 Alderman J. B. Janes, Committeeman on Fires, - reported the arrival of the chemical, Engine,and made a motion that a committee be appointed by the President to arrange for the appointment of a volunteer fire department and the selection of,some one to have the care of the Engine. Motion was seconded by Alderman Martin and when put to vote was carried and all votes were in the affirmative. President Paxson appointed J. B. Janes., J. V1. Barra and R. L. Martin on the committee and stated he wool "d also act oh the committee. He "appoint- ed.Alderman Janes as Chairman of the committee. Alderman Stang, Committeeman, on Police reported work of striping streets was being taken care of ard(that new uniforms had been received by the marshall and policeman. President Paxson reported that arrangements had been made for renting Wilson the garage Sunset p Road for 1} months at $50.00 per month fora t fire stationain which to keep new chemical engine. Town Engineer Brundage ,gave °a report of proposed, plans and cost of build- ing sidewalks on Sunset Road, Red Road and Miami- Homestead Roads< and stated that Crow - Reeder Curtis Company had agreed to dispose of improvement warrants, amounting to $15000.00 with which to finance this proposed improvement;, President Paxson asked for an expression from each of the council mem- bers, present, regarding the proposed sidewalk.00nstruotion and after a en oral discussion of the subject, it was decided to consider building ten T10) ft. walks on each side of Sunset Road from Re& Road to the Miami- Homestead - r Highway and a 10 foot. walk on the South Side of the Miami - Homestead Highway from Red Road to Sunset Road, also an 8 foot walk on both sides of Dorn Street from Hinson Street to Sunset Road and also on both sides of Sunset from the Florida East Coast Railroad Company, 'Hest to the Royal Palm 'Villa Subdivision The Town Engineer was instructed to make drawings and get up the figures of estimated cost of this improvement and have information in shape for con - siclerati'on at next meeting of town council. A report was made by Alderman Dorn regarding the moving and remodelinb of the Bwon Packing house on Sunset Road. He stated the owner would take steps at an early date to have the building moved off the street and properly repaired. The Town Clerk, Airey, read a letter from the South Miami Post American' Legion asking for permission to place banner across Miami Homestead Highway advertising the celebration at Tahitia Beach July 3 -4 and 5th. Motion was made by ,Alderman H. W. Dorn and seconded by W. G. Stang that permission be granted the Post to place sign across the road. Motion was put to vote and carried, all votes being AYE. t� - 1.3 1 <� June 22nd, 1926. 20 Alderman Dorn presented a proposition submitted by the Coral Gables " Transportation Company for finishing bus 'service from South Miami to Coral Gables Interurban Line. The matter was discussed by the Aldermen present and conclusion was reached by them that proposition made would require a guarantee of too large a sum of money to warrant accepting same_. ''President :Paxson made a suggestion that steps be taken to ascertain if some arrangements could be made -,to have a jitney bVLs driven from Miami, ,try out the proposition of furnishing transportation to the Interurban Linea Alderman Dorn wa6 asked to ofgot in ng ouch with' the ,Jitney Bus Organ- ization in r;iiami for the rms. He was also asked .. to confer with Coral Gables Interurban Line with reference to fare to be charged from Bird and LeJune Roads to Miami in connection with South Miami Bus service The Clerk them read the following mentioned bills and asked for authoa ity to issue vouchers in payment of same.
