Minutes-'or a regular ,meeting of the board of Aldermen of the town of
South Miami held in the Town Hall of South Miami oP,Sunset'Drive, Tuesday
Evening, June 15th, 8 P. M.
Meeting was called to order by president Paxson.- The roll was then
called by the town clerk and all members of the board were present.
The Clerk was then instructed to read the minutes of the regular meet- "
ing held Jur_`e lst:1996,:,snd they were approved as read.
The president then called for a report from the various committeemen
Alderman Barre reported that arrangements had been made with the Trans
r; portation Department of Coral Gables to submit a propositi -on to the board
of Aldermen, Tuesday evening June 22nd, "covering cost of furnishing bus
service between South Miami and the Coral Gables Interurban Line at the
closest point to South Miami.
Alderman Myers brought up the question of building sidewalks and curb
in the business section of South Miami and after a general, discussion of
the subject 'by all members, it was decided to let the., matter lay over until
later in the year. T
A motion was made by Alderman Barrs and seconded by Alderman Martin
that delivery be taken of 'Traffic Control Mushroon being held at Freight
house of Florida East Coast - Railroad Company. Motion was put to vote and
was carried, all votes being the affirmative.
Alderman Stang, Committeeman on Police made a request for a jail and
after a discussion by the members of the board present, the president of
the board appointed Alderman Barre and Stang as a committee to ascertain
cost ;and looate possible sites for a town jail, with instructions to report
their findings at the next meeting of the board.
At the request of the Alabama Realty Company, Attorney John C. Sullivan,
presented a resolution covering proposed improvements to be made in section
2b. A motion was made by Alderman J,. W. Barre that resolution be placed.,
on the table withouf' being read until the next meeting or the town council.
Motion was seconded by Alderman W. G. Stang. Motion was put to vote and
vote was taken by poll. Following mentioned Aldermen voted in the affirma-
tive- J. W., Barra, J. B. Janes, and W. G. Stang. Aldermen voting No were,
John 11yers, H. W. Dorn and R. L. 2dartin. This resulted in a tie vote of
three in favor of , "delaying the reading of the resolution and three against,
taking such action, it was necessary for the President to cast the deciding
vote which being to the negative resulted in the motion being lost.
The Clerk was then asked to read the resolution, section by section
and word for word which was as foll6Wt;-
A Resolution for the Construction, Paving, and Hard - Surfacing of
Streets, Drives, Boulevards and Alleys, and for Grading, Leveling,
Laying and Paving of Sidewalks of Improvement District No. 1, Other-
wise known as Cambridge Lawns, in the Town of South Miami, Florida,
and Providing for special Assessments for said Improvement.
Be it resolved by the Council of the Town of South Miami, Florida-.
t ',,That the Streets, avenues, ftives, boulevards and roadways - to wit, Yale
Drive, Princeton Boulevard, the West -half od Auburn Street from the inter-
section with Hardee Road to the Northeast corner of the southeast quarter of
the southeast quarter of the northwest: quarter of Section 25, Township 54
South, Range 40 East, and the east half of said Auburn Street from said
northeast corner to the point where Auburn. Street and Cornell Avenue inter

26, And that a standard five (5) foot concrete sidewalk be graded, leveled,
and paved on both sides of said streets, drives, avenues, boulevards and
roadways in Cambridge Lawns.
3. That all of the cost of said improvement tie paid by special assessments,
and shall be' levied upon the land, described as follows; All lots and lands
adjoining °and contiguous or. 'bounding and abutting upon such improvement.
4. 'The special assessments levied on the above described property for said Cv
improvement shall be paid in ten (10) equal yearly installments,, with int-
erest at the rate of six (6) per cent per annum, ;payable annually.
5.- That no 'partof the cost for making said improvement shall be paid
from the .general improvement fund, of the town of South Miami, Florida. c�
6. That the 'total estimated cost of said improvement is ninety thousand
(90,000.00) dollars.

Each section of the resolution was approved as read.
A motion was then made by Alderman Stang and seconded by Alderman J. B
Janes that resolution be read for the second time by title only. Motion
was voted on by poll and carried all votes being in the affirmative. The
clerk then read the title of the 'resolution which was as follows. A resolu-
tion for the construction, paving and hard- surfaoing of streets, drives,
boulevards and,alleys, and for grading, laveling, laying and paving of side-
walks of Cambridge Lawns in the town of South Miami, Florida, and providing
forospeoial assessments for said improvements,.

Alderman Dorn raised the question of the abuse °of negroes by the Mar-
shall and after a general discussion by the members the matter was dropped.
Alderman Stang, Committeeman on Police stated that the ma shall and
officer had - asked for an increase in salary. Alderman J. W. Barra moved
that the salary of the °marshal.^ and police officer be increased $25.00 per
month to take effect July 1st, 1926. Motion was seconded by Alderman R. L
Martin. Motion was put to vote and carried the majority of the votes being
