1926-05-25 MINUTES BD OF ALDERMEN SPECIAL MTG�) ` { n c May 25th,-.,1926r Minutes of a speoial meeting of the Board of Aldermen of The Town of South Miami held in the Town Hall on South West 62nd St. Tuesday Even- ing, May 25th 1926 at 8 P. 1-1. The meeting was called to order by President Paxson The roll was called by the Clerk and all members answered to the roll ca12. The Clerk then read the minutes of the regular meeting of May 18th and they were approved by the .board as read. The President called for a report from the various committeemen. Committeeman Myers brought up the question of having the roadway of Sunset Road widened from Red Road to the Florida Eas;t'Coast Railroad Tracks. After a general discussion of the question by all members present, the engineer was requested to draw up a sketch showing present curb and general building line of the north side of the street for the purpose of assisting in devising some plan if possible for setting the curb and building line back: `several feet. Alderman Barra made a report of the condition of the Saunders building and was instructed to take the necessary steps to have building made safe. Company Representatives of the Florida Power and Light p g P Y were present... . and submitted a form of contract to be signed by the Mayor and Clerk cover- ing the purchase of current from that corporation for street lighting pur- pose, After the oontract had been read by the clerk, it was found -to be the wrong form of contract and Attorney for the Florida Power & Light Com- pany` will present at a later'date, the proper form for signatures. The Attorney for the Florida Power & Light Company then presented their' oustomary form of applioation for a 30 year franchise to be passed and adopted as an Ordinance by the Town Council of the town of South Miami. After the form had been read and passed on by Attorney Sullivan, the Clerk, was instructed to read it word for word as Ordinance Number 17. This was the first reading of this Ordinance, title of which is as follows; on Ordinance granting to Florida Power PG Light Company, its successors and assigns, the right, privilege, or franchise for the period of thirty years to construct, maintain and operate in, under, over and'aoross the present and future streets, Ave- nues, Alleys, Highways,, Bridges, Easements and other public places in the Town of South Miami, Florida, and its sucoessors, Electric Light and Power lines, together with all the necessary or desirable appurtenances, for the purpose of supplying oleo- tr city to said Town and its successors, the inhabitants thereof, and to persons and corporations beyond the limits thereof, for �) light, heat, power and other purposed, and imposing provisions and conditions relating thereto: A motion was made by Alderman Martin and seconded by Alderman Barra that the second reading of Ordinance Number 17 be by title only. Motion was put to rote and carried. All votes being in the affirmative. The Clerk then read Ordinance number seventeed by title which rep- resented the second reading of said Ordinance. Alderman R. L. Martin Committeeman on sanitation was authorized to hire a truoksnd necessary 'help to remove garbage which had accumulated at various places in the town and was endangering the sanitatiry condition of the town. The Clerk 'then made a report_ of the financial Condition of the Town Treasury which was as 'follows; Cash on hand ........... ..........;.............?79:10 Cash in Bank.......... .. 777.11 He also presented for approval and authority to pay the following mentioned bill. King, Underwood Typewriter .............:.... ,155.00' Motion was made by Alderman 'Myers and seconded by Alderman, Janes that Clerk,be authorized to issue voucher in payment of this bill.13pon being Put to vote the motion vas carried, all votes being "AYE ". The Clerk was then requested to read the following mentioned Ordinances word for word and section by section, Ordinance J 10, Title of which is- An Ordinance fixing the amount of fees for permits issued for various pur- poses by the Town of South Miami. Ordinance # 11- Title of which is- An Ordinance fixing the width of permanent parking grounds and permandnt',road= ways in the town of South Miami. Ordinance # 12- Title of which is- Ain Owdinance prohibiting trespassing upon the >,parki g grounds in the Town of South Miami except as hereinafter provided, and providing penalties for the violation thereof. Ordinance #,13- Title of which is an Ordinance regulat- ins the planting and protection of shade trees in the parking grounds of the town of South Miami, providing for the assessment of the cost thereof against private property. Ordinance J m4 Title of which is -An Ordinance ! regulating la Miami : and the installation of plumbing or house drainage in the town.of imposing penalties for the violation thereof. Ordinance 4e15- Title of which is an Ordinance defining permanent reference monuments, galating the care and usage of same and providing penalties for violation thereof. Ordinance J'16- Title of which is -An Ordinance regulating the expenditures of monies for the construction and maintenances of roads, pave- ments curbs,'sidewalks��and whiteways in the town of South Miami. As eaoh one of the Ordinanoe's mentioned heretofore were read, they were passed on and approved `by the members of the board of Aldermen. Alderman Martin made a motion that Ordinances numbers 10- 11- 12 -18 -14 15- and 16 be adopted as read. Motion was seconded by Alderman Stang and upon being put to vote was parried, all votes being in the affirmative. President Paxson thereupon declared Ordinanoei number 10- 11- 12- 13- 14 -15 -16 enaoted and in force from this date. There being no further business to come before the board, a motion was made by "Alderman. Myers to adjourn to the regular meeting to be held in the town hall on Tuesday June let, 1926 at 8 P. M.
