Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Town Council of the Town of South 3
Miami, Florida, held in the town hall on Sunset Road, Tuesday evening lay
18th, 1926 at 8 P. M.
The meeting was called to order by president'Paxson. '
The Town Clerk then called the roll and found all members of the board
present.
The minutes of the Special Meeting of Mayo 11th 1926 was .read and were
approved as read.
Alderman Barre, Chairman of the Committee appointed to select and desig-
nate a negro district for the town of 'South Miami made a report and submit-
ted a statement from the town engineer, setting forth the legal description
of the territory which the committee decided shout -d be incorporated in the
negro zone. After a general discussion of the subject by all members pros
ent Alderman Dorn made a motion that the report of the committee be accept
od, � and that Attorney Sullivan be instructed to draw up the necessary Ordi-
i)nanee to set aside and regulate the occupancy "of the district as designated
in the Engineer's ,report.
Alderman R. L. 11artin seconded the motion and upon being put to the
vote of the board, the motion was carried, all votes being in the affirmative.
The question of lighting Dorn and Hinson Streets was then taken up by
the Board. Representatives of the Florida Power and Light Company were pres-
ent ,and submitted a proposition for installing eleven two,, hundred and fifty
(11 - -250 ) candle power lights to be placed on Mast Arm Type of fixture and
e located at points designated on may furnished by the town engineer. The
. -cebst of current for each light to be $75.00 per year of l'otir thousand (4000)
hours..
A motion was ';made by Alderman Myers and seconded by Alderman Barre that
the proposition as made by the Florida Power and bight Company be accepted
and a resolution be"passed authorizing the work to be done. Motion was put
to vote and carried, all votes being Aye.
A resolution reading as follows was then passed and adopted by the Board.:
"Be it resolved that the Florida Power and Light Company of Miami be
requested to install a system of street lighting on Dorn and Hinson streets
inthe town of South Miami, consisting of eleven lights of 250 candle power
each, to be placed on mast arm type of fixture, and to be located at points
as shown on blue print furnished the Florida Power and Light Company by the
Town Engineer of South, Miami, Florida.

Motion was made by Alderman Janes that Committeeman "on Police be author-
ized to order Uniforms for Police. Motion was voted on and Barr ed,all votes
being "'AYE"
Alderman Janes brought up the question of having some sort of a report
from Marshall and Policeman and after a lengthy discussion by the members
Olt the board the matter was dropped.
The question of telephone service was taken up by the Board of Aldermen,
and after discussion of the subject, Alderman Pdyers made a motion that the
*-,o following resolution be adopted.
"Resolved that the Southern Bell Telephone Company be notified
of the deplorable Condition of the telephone service in South Miami,
and a request be made that some steps be taken by them at ones to
have the service improved."

r Motion was seconded by Alderman Martin and upon being put to vote`
was carried, all votes bc;ing in the affirmative.
Alderman Martin, Coamnitteeman,on Sanitation reported that complaints
had been received, regarding the dumping of waste from the tomato canning
plant in the section West of Dorn Street and North of Hinson Street. He
was instructed by the board to have the Marshall notify the manager of t! 'Ae
Canning Plant to discontinue dumping waste there and have the rotted toma
�. toes % ioh had been dumped treated with chemicals to destroy same.
Mr. Stang, Chatrman of Committee on Parking Ordinance stated he
would have a proposition prepared to present at the next meeting to cover
irregular Parking of oars and blocking of streets from which a parking
ordinance could be formulated,
Alderman Martin reported that a request had been made by the Florida
East Coast Railroad Company that information be furnished their agent Mr.
Owens at once regarding the Construction of a wide crossing on the railroad
_ at Sunset Road. Town Engineer Brundage was instructed to furnish air
Owens the necessary information at the earliest possible,date.
Alderman Dorn brought up the ynestion of having"some; permanent improve-
ments made such as sidewalks, curb and roads, and the question of possible
means by which; funds could be raised to finance such improvements was die
cussed by all members present.,
The President of the Board requested the Committee on Pablie Service
and Utilities to make an investigation of the situation and report to the
board, an outline of the walks,, curbs and roadways which should be consid-

Town Engineer Brundage asked permission of the town Board to use the
,Town Hall in vbieh to hold a meeting for the purpose of Organizing a Post
of the American Legion for South Miami, and was granted permission to do so.
The�ie being no further business to come before the board, A motion was
made to adjourn to a.spec al meeting to be held Tuesday Evening May,25th,
1926 at 8 P. It. in the Town Hall of 'Sunset Road.
