11-959-021SECTION 09630 NURAZZO TILE & GROUT Part 1— General Nurazzo is manufactured from marble and glass chips embedded in a flexible epoxy and then polished to a high - resolution finish. Nurazzo Tile can contain up to 70% post consumer recycled contents. Prior to installation Nurazzo tile should be stored in a controlled environment inside the building for 72 hours at a minimum temperature of 70 degrees F. Pallets of tile should be broken down, removed from packaging and tile stacked to facilitate the warming process. Keep all traffic off the completed floor for 24 hours. Limited Warranty: Nurazzo is warranted to be free from workmanship or material defects at the time of shipment. Due to natural characteristics of stones there could be some shade variance. Any claimed defect must be received in writing by Nurazzo within the first year of installation. Under normal usage Nurazzo Tile are warranted against excessive wear in recommended applications for a period of 20 years. Part II – Product: Nurazzo is 12" x 12 "or 24" x 24" square – edged, 3/16" or 1/4" gauge Technical Data: ', Abrasive resistance ASTM D-4060 7N, 35 mg Impact Resistance MIL- D3134F o Withstands 16 ft. /Ibs. without cracking delamination or chipping. NOTE TO SPEcinER Tiles, mortars, and grouts do not provide a completely waterproof barrier. Detail and specify LATICRETE4 Hydro Ban "' in all wet areas and over existing, non - structural, hairline cracks (s 118' or 3mm) in the substrate. A LATICRETE 'System' approach to installation is covered by a comprehensive 25 year warranty (Reference LATICRETE DS 025.0), Although Nurazzo Tiles are to be sealed after the installation is completed, the omission of grout pints between Nurazzo Tiles can potentially expose the setting bed and the substrate on which the tiles are installed to intrusion by water and other contaminants. PRFPARA1i NS The moisture vapor emission rate (MVER) of concrete and all cementious substrates to receive Nurazzo Tiles must be :5 7.0 lbs / 1,000 square feet in 24 hours (3.15 kg 190 62 in 24 hours), when tested in accord with ASTM F1869, using an anhydrous calcium chloride test kit. When LATICRETE Hydro Ban is used for waterproofing and / or crack suppression, the MVER of all cementitious substrates must be 15 5 ibs / 1,000 square feet in 24 hours (2.25 kg 190 m? in 24 hours). Prior to commencing the installation, the contractor must examine substrates and advise the General Contractor and Architect of any existing conditions or surface contamination which will require correction before the work commences. Before starting, substrates must be cleaned to remove curing compounds, sealers, soil, mortar, dirt, dust, etc. Curing compounds or sealers must be removed by bead - blasting, grit I sand blasting, diamond wheel grinder with dustless vacuum attachment, or equivalent methods of mechanical scarifying. After removal of the curing compounds and sealers, all rough, uneven or 'out -of- plumb' surfaces must be made flat to within 1/8' in 10'(3 mm in 3 m) and 1/16' in 1'(1.5 mm 300 mm) using LATICRETE 3701 Fortified Mortar Bed. Dry or dusty concrete or masonry surfaces must be water washed and excess water removed just prior to the application of LATICRETE underfayments, membranes, and mortars. EXPANSION AND CONTROL JOINTS Existing joints in substrate must be carried through the life work and must conform to architectural details. Expansion joints must be installed where the abuts restraining surfaces, such as perimeter walls, curbs, columns, corners, etc. Expansion joints must be installed at all 'changes of plane' in the life work, Refer to Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Detail EJ- 171 (Current Year) for industry recommendations INSTALLATION OF WATERPROOFING AND CRACK SUPPRESSION MEMBRANE Install waterproofing membrane in all wet areas prior to installing Nurazzo Tiles. Install anti - fracture membrane over all hairline cracks (s 118' or 3mm) in surfaces prior to installing Nurazzo Tiles, MIXING Mix according to printed product instructions included with each product package. Mix only long enough to wet out the batch, Do not Over -mix. INSTALLATION OF NURAZZ02' TILES BY THE THIN BED METHOD Apply the thin bed mortar to the substrate with scraping motion, using the flat side of the notched trowel. Work the thin bed mortar into good contact with the substrate. A trowel with notches large enough to ensure full coverage and support of the the is required. Using the notched side of the trowel, comb the thin bed mortar in one direction. Back - butter each file with a thin layer of thin bed mortar. Firmly press the file into the fresh thin bed mortar and move them perpendicularly across the ridges to flatten and compress the ridges. This helps to produce maximum coverage to the backs of the the and leave the tie corners and edges fully supported. Do not apply more thin bed mortar than can be covered within 10-15 minutes, or while thin bed mortar is still wet and tacky. Periodically, remove and check files to verify full thin bed mortar coverage is being achieved. Allow the installation to set for 24 hours at 70° F (21 ° C), prior to grouting and prior to exposure to foot traffic. Excess thin bed mortar must be cleaned from tile surfaces with a clean, wet cloth or sponge, while it is still fresh. Seal the face of Nurazzo Tiles with Daycon Sunbrite in accord with the written recommendations of Nurazzo. GROUTING AND POINTING JOINTS Nurazzo requires installing Nurazzo tiles with a grout joint. When grouting Nurazzo Tiles, ensure that the face of the Nurazzo Tiles has been pre - sealed and allow the sealer to cure in accord with the written recommendations of Nurazzo. When grouting, the grout joints must be packed full and free of all voids and pits. Excess grout must be cleaned from the surface of the file as the work progresses, while the grout is fresh and before it hardens. The day after installation cement grout film or haze must be removed using a neutral Ph detergent solution. Epoxy grout haze should be removed the same clay as indicated in the printed product instructions. No acids should be used for cleaning Nurazzo Tiles. If using LATICRETE40 Spectral-OCK PRO Gout, use electric dishwashing machine detergent in place of the cleaning additive that is provided in the t_ATiCRETE SpectraLOCK PRO Grout packaging. Mix approximately 114 cup (0.06 1) of the detergent to 3.5 gallons (13.31) of clean wader. Change the cleaning water and sponge frequently for best results. Due to the difficulfies of Installing large format tiles with the butt joint method, Nurazzo does not recommend this type of Installation for Nurazzo tiles. Nurazzo will not warrant butt joint installations. PROTECTION The contractor must take precautions to protect the finished work from damage by other trades. Do not allow construction traffic on fresh grout joints. Builder must provide up to 3/4' (18 mm) thick plywood or OSB protection board, over non - staining kraft paper, to CITY OF protect floors after installation until the materials have cured. Allowthe cement grout to cure fora minimum of 7 days at 70° F(21* C) BUILDING D MlAr1Rt before aggressive cleaning. NOTE- Steam cleaning LATICRETO SpectraLOCitc PRO Grout is not recommended. DEPT. C STRUCTURAL SECTION COLD WEATHER NOTE The curing of latex, epoxy, and Portland cement based materials is retarded by low temperatures and finished work should be protected for an extended period of time. Typically, for every 18° F below 70° F (10°C below 21 °C), latex, epoxy, and Portland cement 'tf'PRgvED c3y based materials take twice as long to cure. „ LATICRETE Technical services provides reviser of job specifications and plans, project detail planning and review, and provides ansisrers to questions contamin the instalation of ' 4 9 ceramic tie, brick, marble and stone.
