Davis City Manager RESOLUTION ary Foundation of South Miami and Naming of Field at Murray Park A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A MONETARY DONATION FROM THE ROTARY FOUNDATION OF SOUTH MIAMI FOR THE REPAIR OF THE FIELD LIGHTS AT MURRAY PARK AND OFFICIALLY NAMING THE FIELD AS "ROTARY FIELD AT MURRAY PARK "; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS The Rotary Foundation of South Miami has approached the City of South Miami with an offer to fund a project within the City that would show the Rotary Foundation's commitment to the City and leave a lasting mark for other service organizations to emulate. The Rotary Foundation has indicated their desire to assist in the funding of the repair of the athletic field lighting on the field at Murray Park. It is estimated that this project will cost from $5,000 to $8,000 dollars depending on the extent of repairs required. The Rotary Foundation has committed to providing not less than $5,000 and possibly more towards these repairs. Any remaining costs would come from the Parks and Recreation Department's Community Center Operating Equipment account (# 001.2020.519.6430) that currently has a balance of $8,000. The work will be performed by a licensed electrical contractor utilizing an existing Broward County School Board bid. An agenda item will be placed on a future City Commission agenda authorizing the expenditure of the funds for the repair of the field lights. In return for their generous donation, the athletic field at Murray Park would be designated and remarked with a plaque as "Rotary Field at Murray Park." The plaque would be paid for by the Rotary Foundation of South Miami and would be placed in a conspicuous location at the Community Center coinciding with the 100th Anniversary of Rotary International in February 2005. RECOMMENDATION We recommend that the City Manager be authorized to accept this donation and for the athletic field at Murray Park to be designated as "Rotary Field at Murray Park."
