SE SUNDAY,OCTOBER 26,2014|33SE An Open Letter to the Citizens of Cutler Bay from Steve Zarzecki,a citizen ofCutlerBay Friendsand Neighbors, We are indeed blessed to live in acountrywherewearefreeto formourownpersonalopinions -andtofreelyexpressthem underprotectionoftheFirst Amendment ofthe Constitution. Ihavebeenaskedmanytimes duringthiselectioncyclewho Iamgoingtovoteforand why. Ihaverefrainedfrommaking a decision until after the CutlerBayCandidateForums. Unfortunately, onlyone mayoralcandidatewaswilling toparticipateintheforums. Art Nanni attended theforums, answeredquestionsfromthe voters, stated his vision forthe Town, discussed concerns and issues, and outlined his solutions for those concerns.Mr.Nanni expresseddisappointment thathewasunabletoopenly debatehisno-showopponent, PeggyBell, regardingher record. It seems she did not want to talk about her record. And I understand that -itisa dismallitanyofsponsoringand votingforresident-unfriendly ordinances. Mr.Nannie opponenthas insteadchosentoruna campaign isolated from the voters. She is usingadsandbrochureswith thesameoldpoliticalone-liners and sound bites -no substance and no solutions. Mr.Nannihasalonghistory of publicservicehereinCutler Bay,hasreachedouttoand engagedtheresidents, andhas demonstrated his willingness tolistentoandrepresentallthe citizensofCutlerBay. From what Ihave seen, thisis notthecasewithhisopponent. Sheisintolerantofanyone whodoesnotagreewith her, andonlylistenstothose whosaywhatshewantsto hear. She attacks those who disagreewithher.AsIsee it,ifelected, shewillgovern asanoligarchic "ruler" favoringthosewhosupport her(includingalobbyist whoservesashercampaign "consultant")rather than serve asanelected representative for allthecitizensofCutlerBay. Ipreferarepresentativeofand for all the citizens. I will vote for Art Nanni for Mayor of CutlerBay. In the race for Council Seat One,EdWolmershasa long historyofcivicinvolvement andservicetoour community. Hisopponent, theincumbent, doesnot,isa"no-show",and isa "me-too"on the Council. For4yearsSeatOnehasbeen effectively anemptychair, deprivingthecitizensofafifth independent, communicative, andintelligentcouncilmember. It's timetochangethat.
