AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA RELATING TO THE PERMIT FEE SCHEDULE;
AMENDING ORDINANCE 14 -90 -1454 AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCES 6 -92-
1501, 17- 92- 1512A, 10 -95 -1583, 18 -99 -1692 AND 28 -00 -1730, INCREASING SOME
PERMIT FEES, ADDING NEW FEES AND DELETING SOME FEES FROM THE
SCHEDULE, PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT,
AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City has reviewed permit fee schedules for Miami -Dade County and several
municipalities.
WHEREAS, the City has found that fees for the County and other municipalities are higher than
those fees included in the South Miami Permit Fee Schedule.
WHEREAS, the cost of plan review, inspections and permit processing has increased
considerably in the past few years.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to adopt a new Permit Fee Schedule
allowing funding which will cover the cost of services provided.
I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH
Section 1. That Ordinance 14 -90 -1454, as amended by Ordinances 6 -92 -1501, 17-92 -
1512A, 10 -95 -1583, 18 -99 -1692 and 28 -00 -1730 is amended by replacing the Permit Fee Schedule with
the amended Permit Fee Schedule attached to this Ordinance.
Section 2. If any section, clause, sentence, or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of
the remaining portions of this ordinance.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this
ordinance are repealed.
Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon approval.

In addition to the basic application fees listed, applicants shall pay for all reasonable costs
incurred by the City in processing said applications. These costs shall include but not be
limited to advertising, staff time and costs for qualified experts, such as, architects, engineers,
planners, attorneys and others deemed necessary for the review and evaluation of an
application. These fees shall be in addition to any other fees required by the City.

Fees charged for a permit required by the South Florida Buildhig-Ge&-, shall be refunded by
the Building Official subject to the following:
1. No refunds will be made on requests involving:
a ) Permit fees of $200 or less

d) Permits which have expired
e) Permits under which work has commenced
f) The original permit holder when there is a change of contractor.
2. A fall refund will be granted to a permit holder who takes out a permit covering work
outside City limits.
3. A fall refund, less $200 or 50% of the permit fee, whichever is greater, will be granted to a
permit holder who requests a refund provided that:
a) A written request is submitted to the City prior to the permit expiration date; and
b) A validated copy of the permit is submitted with such request.
