Ord No 07-04-1814ORDINANCE NO.Q7-04-1814 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA, RELATING TO AMENDING SECTION 2-3 OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI CODE OF ORDINANCES,ENTITLED "COMPENSATION FOR COMMISSIONERS AND MAYOR - ESTABLISHED"TO ALLOW FOR AN INCREASE IN COMMISSIONER COMPENSATION;PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY,ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT,AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,the Mayor andCity Commission of the City of South Miami seekto ensurethatthe highest caliber candidatesareattractedtoserveonthe City Commission; and, WHEREAS,public service isone element of offering oneself asa candidate and hard work,with its commitment of time,is another,and WHEREAS,that commitment of timecauses financial hardship to some who might otherwise be willing andablepublicservants,causing them to refrain from standing for Commission office,and WHEREAS,the Mayor andCity Commission desire to provide a modicum of realistic financial compensation to Commission members in order to expand and enhance the pool of candidates. NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA; Section 1.That Section 2-2.3 of the Code of Ordinances entitled "Compensation for commissioners and mayor -Established"is amended asfollows: There shall be paid tothe mayor of the city as annual compensation the amount of $12.000.00 14,000.00per year.There shallbe paid tothevice- mavor mayor and to each city commissioner of the city as annual compensation the amount of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00)$8,000.00 $12.000.00peryear.Thesalariestothecommissionandmayorshallbe adjusted annually forCost Of Living(COLA)increases according tothe same percentage adopted by budget forthe City Manager.Additionally, the mayor,vice-mavor.and each commissioner shall receive such sums as are approved bythe annual budget as reimbursement for compensation for services and as allowable expenses. Section 3.All ordinances orparts of ordinances in conflict withthe provisions of this ordinance are repealed. Section 4.This ordinance shall be codified and included in the Code of Ordinances. Section 5.This ordinance shalltake effect immediately;provided,however,the salary provision shallbe implemented atthestart of FY 2006-07.Commission salaries shall remain unchanged until implementation.
