No. 110-90-9036RESOLUTION NO.110-90-9036 A RESOLUTION OP THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OP THE CITY OP SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA SUPPORTING A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FRANCHISE IN DADE COUNTY,FLORIDA WHEREAS,the Chambers of Commerce,the Dade League of Cities and the Board of Metropolitan Dade County Commissioners have heretofore informed owners of Major League Baseball teams and the Commissioner of Baseball that they desire to support an expansion franchise for baseball at a site in Dade County,Florida; WHEREAS,South Florida has long been part of the "Grapefruit League"as the spring training home for many Major League Baseball teams and presently is an avid supporter of both professional football and a football franchises; WHEREAS,the demographics of Dade County include approximately two million people within County boundaries, almost 662,000 people within the ages 20to44,and a population exceeding 4.1 million people when combined with Broward and Palm Beach Counties;and WHEREAS,the Chambers of Commerce,the Dade League of Cities,and Metropolitan Dade County have appropriate authority to enter intoa long term working agreement with Major League Baseball and have permissive legislation that will effect the viability ofa franchise. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA: Section 1.That the City of South Miami,Florida joins the Chambers of Commerce,theDade League ofCities,and Metropolitan Dade County in heartily supporting the expansion effort of the National League and encouraging the baseball owners and the Commissioner of Baseball to establish anmajorleague expansion franchise within Dade County,Florida.
