A Resolution opposing the proposed development of approximately 88acres
of pine rockland generally located along S.W.152 street and S.W.127th
Avenue within unincorporated Miami-Dade County.

WHEREAS,ithasbeen recentlyreported that approximately 88acres of forestland
generally located alongS.W.152StreetandS.W.127Avenuein unincorporated Miami-Dade
Countyistobe developed asa mixed use development (the "Property");and
WHEREAS,the Property consists of one of thelast intact tracts of endangered pine
rockland ("Rockland")within Miami-Dade County;and
WHEREAS,Rockland isa globally imperiled habitat containing an array of rare plants,
animals,and insects which are rare and exclusive to that habitat;and
WHEREAS,some of the endangered species for which Rockland provides a habitat
include the bald eagle,indigo snake,the Florida bonneted bat,andtwo rare butterflies;and
WHEREAS,preservation of thenativeRockland,andthe species for which it provides a
home,is of greatimportancefortheprotectionofournativeforest'suniqueandendangered
environment;and
WHEREAS,theCity of SouthMiami(the "City")is concerned abouttheloss of this
valuable Rockland and desires to express its opposition tothe development ofthe Property;and
WHEREAS,the City Commission finds that this Resolution isin the best interest and
welfare of the residents of theCity.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA:
Section 1.The City Commission opposes the proposed development of approximately
88acres of pinerocklandgenerallylocatedalongS.W.152streetandS.W.127thAvenuewithin
unincorporated Miami-Dade County and hereby instructs theCity Clerk to transmit this
Resolution to the Board of the Miami-Dade County Commissioners and Craig W.Aubrey,South
Floridafield supervisor fortheU.S.FishandWildlifeService.
Section2.Severability.Ifany section clause,sentence,or phrase ofthis resolution isfor
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional bya court of competent jurisdiction,the holding shall
notaffectthevalidity of theremainingportions of thisresolution.
Section 3.Effective Date.This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoptionbyvote of theCityCommission.
