A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING PUBLIC SCHOOL
TEACHERS OF MIAMI -DADE COUNTY IN THEIR EFFORT TO GAIN
INCREASED COMPENSATION; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission agree that public education is a vital
component of our civil society; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission agree that teachers are an integral
component of the success of public education; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission agree that Miami -Dade County Public
School Teachers are inadequately compensated relative to other South Florida districts; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission believe that this constitutes a matter of
critical importance to all taxpayers, children, parents, educators, and the entire community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami support the
public school teachers of Miami -Dade County in their efforts to gain increased compensation for
their labors.
Section 2. This resolution shall be furnished by the City Clerk to the Governor, the
Florida Department of Education, the Superintendent of Miami -Dade Schools, the Miami -Dade
County School Board, the Miami -Dade County Commission, the United Teachers of Dade, the
Miami -Dade League of Cities, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, the
President of the Florida Senate, and local State legislators..
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
