RE: Florida Missing Children's Day 2007
As your President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, I am writing to ask for your support and help in recognizing
Florida's missing children. As many of you know, Florida Missing Children's Day was, created by the Florida Legislature in
1999. The ceremony this year to be held at the State Capitol in Tallahassee on September 10, 2007 will once again honor law
enforcement officers and civilians statewide who have assisted in missing child cases, and will help to raise statewide
awareness to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation. I encourage you to- attend this poignant event. It is truly
an experience you will not forget and it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge all involved that have been struck by this
type of tragedy and suffered such a great loss. Please take the time and click here,
http: / /www,fdle.state.ff.us /video /video.htmi to view the 2006 Florida Missing Children's Day ceremony that illustrates the
significance of this event. You may also request a DVD copy while supplies last by contacting Patricia Rutherford, FDLE at
PatRutherford @fdle.state.fi.us or by phone at (850) 410 -8585.
I would also like to invite you to join us in this initiative by making a contribution from your trust fund, showing your
agency's support for this important statewide, law enforcement - sponsored event. In the past some have contributed $500,
however any donation would be advantageous. I believe that one of the most beneficial uses of our law enforcement trust
fund monies is support of Florida Missing Children's Day. Please participate in this event by returning your contribution
along with the attached pledge form and by attending Florida Missing Children's Day 2007.
Governor Charlie Crist, school age children, many law enforcement officers, families of missing children and those families
whose children did not survive their abduction, will attend the ceremony on September 10th. Civilians who, under special
circumstances, have aided in missing child cases throughout the state will join them. The following awards will be
presented:
• Local Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
• State /Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
• Law Enforcement Task Force /Team of the Year
• Law Enforcement Trailing Team of the Year
