Subject: FW: Reso repair of surveillance van-
I just noticed that the account number information on the resolution for the Video /Audio recording equipment
repair is wrong. Repairs are not paid from a miscellaneous account. There is an account for repair &
maintenance which was included in my email below.
In order to get a PQ for the services, since it is for over $800, a memo to the City Clerk needs to be submitted for
the account information -to be corrected to reflect 615 1910 521 4680. Also, please remember about the budget
transfer.
Thanks,
Adriana

history and regard it as a solid foundation for oui
continued development and innovation. We look to the
future with our clients' expectations foremost in oui

Our experience with modern specialty vehicles and
sophisticated third party equipment integration can be
traced back over thirteen years. Our former corporation,
AID, created the basis for our current Mobile

architecture, Gen. 2.5, still sets the standard as the
aractical, reliable, trouble -free workhorse of the technical
surveillance community.
These products are the foundation from which Advanced
Jehicle Systems will move forward. We have several
exciting and innovative products under development and
ve invite you to contact and challenge us to put your

Police Department
INTER- OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Vincent A. Landis
Chief of Police
FROM: Lieutenant Bruce H. Ross
DATE: October 18, 2006
SUBJECT: Assignment
As discussed, here is the history on the surveillance van, which is in great need of
maintenance /repair.
The van was purchased jointly by the South Miami Police Department & Homestead
Police Department in 1992 using Federal Forfeiture Funds. The van was routinely by
both departments until HPD bought their own surveillance approximately in 1995. The
van continued to be used routelinly by SMPD SIU detectives through 2000. In late 2000
the van was inspected after a detective assigned to SIU had left, on bad terms with the
department, it was discovered that the vehicle had been sabotaged.
The surveillance equipment was totally inoperable and the tires were flat. The vehicle
remained parked in a secured area until 2003, when it was taken to A.I.D.S. in Deerfield
Beach, FL for a repair estimate. The estimate at that time for the surveillance equipment
was approximately $5,000.00. The administration at that time decided not to fix or repair
the vehicle and it remained parked on the hill until your recent inquiry.
The vehicle has been taken to the motor pool for the following mechanical repairs:
*new batteries
*new windshield wipers
*new tires
*new brakes
*repairing the cargo doors
*new starting coil
*A/C units in need of repair
Page 2
Assignment
The cost of doing the mechanical repairs does not include the cost of repairing,
refurbishing or replacing the surveillance equipment. SN is in great need of a
surveillance vehicle and it is imperative we try and fix the current van or if it becomes
cost prohibitive replace it with something more current.
