WHEREAS, Florida statute 3334.071, entitled " legislature designation of Transportation
Facilities," states that erection of makers shall be contingent upon the appropriate City or County
Commission passing a resolution in support of the particular honorary designation; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the request made by the Florida Department of Transportation
( "FDOT ") for honorary designation of roads located in the City of South Miami, the City of South
Miami Commission has no objection and supports the Senate Bill 1604; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1604, adopted by the Florida legislature, designated a state
Transportation Facility ( "roadway ") that is located with the City of South Miami at South Dixie
Highway/US 1 (State Road 5) from SW 80th Street to SW 57th Avenue, South Miami, Florida as "
All - America Parkway ".
Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by this
reference.
Section 2. Approval of the Designation. The City of South Miami Commission declares no
objection and supports the designation by the Florida legislature, pursuant to Senate Bill 1604,
designating South Dixie Highway/US 1 (State Road 5), from SW 80th Street to SW 57 Avenue, City
of South Miami, Florida as " All - America Parkway."

Reason/Need: We received the attached letter from Florida Department of Transportation
requesting a resolution from the City to support the co-designation of US 1 from
SW 80th street to SW 57th Avenue as "All America Parkway". Apparently the State
Legislators adopted Senate Bill 1604 to co-designate US 1 during last legislative
session. The name is a correction to the existing sign currently posted along the
corridor as "All American Parkway".

Subject: Roadway Designations of the 2008 Legislature
Dear Mr. Balogun:
I am contacting you at this time to request your assistance with the designation of US-1 from
SW 80'h Street to SW 57th Avenue as All-American Parkway in the City of South Miami.
It is the responsibility of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to order and install
the signs for the newly designated roadways. According to the legislation, the Department may
not erect the markers for honorary road or bridge designations unless the affected city
commissions enact a resolution supporting the designation. In order to assist you in drafting the
resolution, we have enclosed a sample resolution.
After the Resolution has been adopted, the City should mail or fax it to:

322 (1) When the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement
323 Trust Fund, any state agency, ar any agency created . by state law,
32.4 authorized to accept reforestation lands in the name of the
325 state, approve the recommendations of the Division of Forestry in
326 reference to the acquisition of land and acquire such land, the
327 said board, state agency, or agency created by state law, may
328 formally designate and dedicate any area as a reforestation
329 project, or state forest, and where so designated and dedicated
330 such area shall be under the administration of the division which
331 shall be authorized to manage and administer said area 'according
332 to th.e. purpose for.which- it was designated and dedicated.
333 (2) The first state forest acquired by the Board of
334 Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund in Baker County
335 is to be named the John M. Bethea State Forest- This is to honor
336 Mr. John M. Bethea who was Florida's fourth state forester and
337 whose distinguished career in state government spanned 46 years
338 and who is a native of Baker County.
339 (3) The state forest managed by the Division of Forestry in
340 Seminole County is to be named the Charles H. Bronson State
341 Forest to honor Charles H. Bronson, the tenth Commissioner of
342 Agriculture, for his distinguished contribution to this state's
343 agriculture and natural resources.
